Throughout her years of fame, our favorite "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" and "The Hills" character, Lauren Conrad, has come up with several memorable quotes to live by. College is a time of confusion, growth and most importantly, change, and here are some LC quotes that are important to remember throughout these crazy, beautiful years of our lives.
1. “As people grow up, they realize it's less important to have more friends and more important to have real ones.”
College is a time when you can more easily pick and choose who you do and do not want to surround yourself with. In high school, maybe all we wanted was to have a huge group of best friends. When you get to college, though, you realize that at the end of the day, it's more important to have genuine friends, even if that means having fewer people to surround yourself with.
2. “Sometimes no matter how much you like the guy, they're just no good for you.”
We've all been there. You like a guy for all the wrong reasons, and he is just simply no good for you. Nothing good is coming out of the relationship, and the best thing you can do for yourself is let him go. The heart wants what it wants, but sometimes we need to put our wants aside, put our needs first, and learn to only accept what we deserve.
3. “As soon as you stop thinking about them, they’ll send you a text message or they’ll call you, because they know you just stopped thinking about them. It's like a radar.”
And speaking of that guy who is no good for you, it's not going to be easy to just let him go. It's going to be hard on you, and he's going to make it even harder. Don't let him get into your head, and keep in mind all of the reasons why you need it to end. Stay strong and know that someone better will come along.
4. “When you're looking to meet someone, you are looking to settle because you are not looking for someone. You are looking for anyone.”
But it's important to let that someone come to you spontaneously and to not go around looking for him. If you settle for just anyone because you feel like you need someone, you'll never be truly happy. As time goes on, you'll start to ask yourself whether you made the right choice, if you should have waited longer, if you really loved him, and if it was the right relationship to begin with. Just because settling seems safe doesn't mean it's right.
5. “You don’t get that many people in your life that you can just tell anything to.”
College is when you meet some of your lifelong friends. You build friendships with people that are incomparable to most you've had or will have in the future. You change, grow, love, party, struggle, thrive and most importantly live with your college friends. When you find the right ones who you can tell anything to without a worry in the world, hold onto them tight and cherish that bond.
6. “You have to believe that there are people that just really want the best for you.”
Cynicism is cool and all, but sometimes you need to see the best in people. If they let you down, move on. You can't go through life thinking that there aren't good people out there that want to see you succeed.
7. “All there is left to do is forgive and forget. So I want to forgive you, and I want to forget you.”
Although it's important to always see the best in people, there are going to be people that don't want to see you do well and bring you down. That's OK. Part of growing up is learning to take the high road and rising above the people who do you wrong.
8. “I don’t really have a talent. I can't sing or act or dance or perform. All I can do is be myself.”
All you can do is be yourself, and yourself is more than enough.
9. “Your 20s are such an important part of your life as far as figuring out who you are, the type of person you want to be, and what type of people you want to surround yourself with. I think they’ve been really important years to me. I’ve definitely learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes, but so does everyone.”
No one is perfect, and your 20s are probably the time you will realize that the most. We are all going to mess up an unbelievable number of times, and we are going to go through some of our hardest times financially, in school, in relationships and so much more. Your 20s are the prime time of your young life before the real responsibilities sink in, so take advantage of that time. They will be the toughest, most fun and most confusing years of your life, guaranteed.
