There are a lot of good Disney movies out there, so I'm sure you have your fave. Whether it's "Cinderella," "Beauty and the Beast," "Hercules," "Tangled," or anything in between, I'm sure you have at least one that you love and have watched a thousand times. But what about the movies that don't get as much love? There are so many good Disney movies out there so there has got to be some that are being overlooked. Here's a non-comprehensive list of Disney movies that really deserve some love.
1. "The Princess and the Frog"
I really don't understand how this movie doesn't get more attention. Not only does it have all of the diversity that people are clamoring for (yes, there should be more, but this is a good start), but it also has the show-stopping vocals of Anika Noni Rose and a beautiful message that if you work hard, you can achieve your dreams.
2. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"
This movie is surprisingly upbeat given that it was based on a Victor Hugo novel (aka the man who wrote "Les Miserables"). It's a story of love, hate, fear, bigotry, and sin that can teach kids acceptance and speaks out against fear of the perceived "other."
3. "Big Hero Six"
This movie got overlooked since it came in between "Frozen" and "Inside Out," two giants in terms of success and marketing. But it's a really accessible and adorable film. The diversity in this film is amazing and the message of hope in the story is perfect.
4. "Sword in the Stone"
This is the classic story of King Arthur's coming of age, but adds quirky characters like Archimedes the Owl and Madame Mim, two of my faves. It's really easy to watch this movie and root for Arthur as he grows up into the legendary king we all know and admire.
5. "Atlantis: The Lost Empire"
This movie is full of adventure and love, but also has some of the most gorgeous art concepts I've ever seen. The protagonist, Milo, is just awkward enough that it's endearing and the numberof strong women in this film is fantastic.
6. "Meet the Robinsons"
Full of imagination, misunderstandings, plot twists, and fantastic inventions, Meet the Robinsons should be a classic movie. Everyone knows the line, "I have a big head, and little arms," but almost always fail to remember the rest of this amazing movie. It surely deserves a second chance.
7. "Brave"
Also an underrated Disney Princess, Merida isn't the typical heroine Disney usually presents. As part of the line of modern princesses, Merida doesn't need a man to make her happy, she just want to be in control of her own life. And it you can't relate to that, I don't know what will. Full of magic, adventure, and bears, this is a must see.
8. "Emperor's New Groove"
OK, everybody talks about this movie, but I'm willing to bet that it has been a few years since you've watched this instant classic. You already know what it's about, so go watch it again! It's on Netflix!
9. "101 Dalmatians"
Let's be real. Having a lot of dogs is a dream come true, but not 101! Nevertheless, this movie is really underrated, especially considering all of the live-action movies that resulted. Go back to the beginning and check out this old movie of a couple living the doggy-dream.
And these are just some of the many Disney films that get neglected. There's also "Rescuers"/"Rescuers Down Under," "The Great Mouse Detective," "The Black Cauldron," "Fox and Hound," and many many more. So go check these out and then search for more!
