If you love your dog(s), raise your hand! I'll raise both because my life revolves around two little fluffy balls of sunshine. My pups are more than just my pets — they are my babies. I would call myself a very devoted dog mom, and I have no shame about that. Here are eight ways to know you are a dog mom, too.
1. You refer to them as children 98 percent of the time
Why yes I do tell people that I have two fur babies. No shame. I refer to myself as "mommy," and they are my babies. If you refer to your pups as your kids, your 98 percent dog mom.
2. They have clothes
My dog Garth has a million T-shirts (my other one refuses to wear them), and both my pups have a scarf for every season. They have light, fall jackets and warm, winter coats. I am going to need to get a closet just for them if I keep this up. My kids have to be well dressed.
3. They have middle names
Garth Brooks Brown is what my pup gets called in a very firm voice when he is being bad. My other one is Gracie Lou-ann Brown. Don't ask me where I come up with the middle names, but they just feel right. If your dog has a middle name, you are probably a dog mom.
4. You relate characteristics between them and you
"She gets her sass from me" or, "smart just like her mommy" are things heard around you and your pups.
5. You're truly not sure if a baby human will ever be as cute as your dog
How could anything ever be cuter than Prince Fluffykins when he was a fluffy little pup? Impossible. I am not sure I ever want human kids, because they would take away time from my dogs.
6. They sleep in the bed
Under the covers... Head on a pillow... With their stuffed animal... And you are completely OK with this sleeping situation. Your dogs probably snuggle right between you and your significant other and almost push you off the bed but that's just life with fur babies.
7. They get only the best food and treats
Just like an overprotective mom, my babies only get the highest quality grain-free food and treats. I will pay the extra money to ensure my pups get the best of the best.
8. You greet them before your significant other
After a few hours or days, or even weeks away, you drop to the floor to hug and kiss the pups before greeting your significant other. Usually the significant other is also a dog lover and understands that puppy kisses take priority when you haven't had them in a few days.
Needless to say, sometimes the dogs in your life just take over your heart. I am a proud dog mom, and I would not change it for the world.
