During finals week, we could not wait to be here. After being engulfed in studying and writing papers, being home, and having absolutely no academic responsibilities seemed so amazing. And now we are here. The first few days were amazing, but now after a week of no school work, life’s been slow. Here’s a list of a few things that will keep you busy over winter break.
1. Get a job.
As the holiday season is coming to an end, you’re most likely carrying an empty wallet. One way to stay busy and productive over you break is to get a job. Whether it’s bartending, working in retail, or babysitting, having some sort of an income is always positive.
2. Join a gym.
New year, new you? Get into the habit of working out and exercising daily. With no school work, and a lot of free time on your hands, joining a gym is a great way to release stress and keep busy.
3. Spend time with friends and family.
It’s what the holidays are all about. Spend quality time with your family and catch up with your friends from home. If you have been away living at college, it’s always great to see old friends and stay in touch with the people you grew up with.
4. Go shopping.
If you financially can, going shopping over break is a great way to spend time with friends. As the next semester is quickly approaching, buy some new clothes or buying few new nick-nacks for your dorm.
5. Volunteer.
As unattractive as it may sound, in lieu of the holiday spirit, volunteering for anything is always a great way to proactively spend some time. Anything works from volunteering for community service, to shoveling your neighbor’s driveway.
6. Plan a trip.
Grab a few friends and plan a day trip somewhere. Even if you are on a tight budget, this can work. (Some ideas: Buy a train ticket and explore Manhattan, go to a museum you’ve always wanted to go to, drive to a state park and go for a hike).
7. Apply for internships.
Summer break is closer than it may seem, and now is the time to plan what you will be doing with your summer. Looking into or even applying for summer internships is a great way to use all the extra time you have over break. Planning ahead is never a bad idea!
8. Educate yourself.
As lame as it may sound, teaching yourself anything is always a productive thing to do with your time. Whether it’s teaching yourself an instrument, watching a documentary on your interests, or just reading the news, stimulating your brain and learning new things is a great healthy way to stay busy.
