15 Easy Ways To Rid Yourself Of Boredom This Break
Mental Floss

So you've found yourself bored with nothing to do? Join the club. Here are 15 ways you can get rid of boredom this break.

1. Be a tourist in your own city.

So you’ve always wanted to climb to the top of the Empire State Building? Or walk the entirety of the Freedom Trail? Do it.

2. Cook something new.

And by cook something new, I mean by all intents and purposes bake some dessert. I’m eyeing this recipe myself.

3. Read a book.

Whether it’s a classic, the one all of your friends are reading, or something that caught your eye at the bookstore, this is the perfect time to spend some time with a good book.

4. Craft.

This girl never needs an excuse to start a new craft, but boredom seems to fit the bill nicely.

5. Write someone a letter.

Whether it’s sending servicemen and women holiday cards, or writing your roommate to tell them what you had for breakfast this morning.

6. Start a new show.

Winter Break is the perfect time to start that new show you’ve been wanting to watch forever! A.K.A., if you’ve never watched The Office, now is the perfect time to start.

7. Pick up a new language on Duolingo.

Duolingo is my favorite app. How else would I know how to curse in 17 languages? And also, enrich my knowledge of the world by being able to communicate with people of different cultures! (Hi, Mom.)

8. Go through old pictures and home movies.

As someone who sang more than they spoke as a child, and was the older sister of a nudist, these can be more entertaining to look back on than you remember.

9. Marathon your favorite movie series.

*Hedwig’s theme plays in the distance*

10. Start a bucket list.

It’s never a bad thing to have goals, even if it’s to finish a Vermonster by yourself, right?

11. Take a bubble bath.

Enough said!

12. Go outdoors.

Depending on your weather at home you can go hiking or skiing, or if you’re fortunate, swimming.

13. Clean your room.

Your mom will thank you later!

14. Go online shopping.

Your bank account may hate you, but your Spring Break trip will thank you.

15. Count down the days until you return.

I miss my friends, my school, Dhall mozzarella sticks, and the campus cat. Here’s to the last couple of weeks home until we go back!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
