1. Write everything down.
Lists and a calendars are an absolute must when your brain is spinning with everything that you have to do. Honestly, the best way to go after an intimidating week is just to start. A master list can help you see your thoughts and make them more manageable. Even if you need to sit down and schedule your whole week down to when you're going to eat lunch, do it!
2. Break a sweat.
It's easy to skip the gym when your workload starts to pile up. Resist the urge! Even if all you can swing is a brisk walk or an ab workout before bed, working out is always worth it. Getting some movement in your day can make you more creative, more focused and less anxious.
3. Get inspired.
Tape a few quotes in your workspace that remind you to stay on point. Think about the greater purpose of what you are doing - working towards a degree or a promotion - saving money for the future - and remind yourself that this week is just a part of that process.
4. Dress up.
Wearing sweatpants, as comfy as they are, can also remind you how much you'd rather be in bed. A nice outfit is an unexpected lift when you feel like you're struggling. It may seem kind of trivial, but there's something awesome about meeting a challenge and looking great while doing it.
5. Call your person.
When it's clear to you that you could use some encouragement or a distraction, it's totally okay to call a friend and get an outside perspective. Extra points if you call an optimist - they'll keep you from wallowing and steer you in a more positive direction.
6. Use your weekend.
The weekend, especially in college, is not typically the time you want to spend going over notes or perfecting a research paper. However, it's also a ton of time you could put to use when you know the week is going to hit you hard. To make up for the fact that I'm not out having a good time, I like to join forces and go to the library with a friend who's just as stressed as I am. Another person at your side can keep you motivated and also help diminish your fear of missing out.
7. Make a playlist.
On the way into exams, you'll see people with their heads bent over notebooks and flashcards, frantically trying to study one last thing. This can be really unnerving. At that point in the game, I'm pretty certain that no real studying or memorization is happening. You're probably better off putting in headphones and turning on your favorite song in those last moments. It'll put you in a confident, relaxed mood that sets you up for success.
8. Reflect.
You survived the week! At times, it felt endless, but here you are on the other side. Before you totally wipe that stressful week from your mind, go back and look at it. Remember what worked for you and what didn't. Some people can pull all-nighters or put off projects until the last minute and make it just fine, but not everyone can. Keep your strengths and weaknesses in mind for the next time you have a jam-packed week coming up.
