8 Tips For Living A More Positive Lifestyle

Changing your perspective on things and living with a more positive attitude can drastically improve life in ways you didn't even think were possible. Life isn't always simple, and sometimes it seems as if thinking negatively is an easier way to deal with the obstacles that are thrown at us, but the truth is, having a positive outlook on life in any given situation will benefit you more than a negative outlook will. Learning to live with a positive outlook will help you focus less on your worries, and focus more on a better outcome in the future. Here are eight tips that will help you transition into this optimistic state of mind!

1. Find appreciation in everything you have.

Taking the time to step back and realize how blessed you are in life will leave you with a more appreciative attitude in the future. Sure, I bet your life isn't exactly perfect, but appreciating the little things in life such as good friends, a family that cares about you, or even the beauty of the world around you will help you realize that no matter what you're going through, you still have a good life. One good way to realize all that you are blessed with is to keep a journal to write in daily including good things that happened to you that day and things you appreciated having that day.

2. Stop worrying about the future.

Worrying about what will come in the future will only prevent you from living in and enjoying the present. Most importantly, don't worry about what you can't control. Whether you believe in the theory that everything happens for a reason or that everything happens as it should happen or not, everything will work itself out somehow. Don't worry about something that hasn't happened yet; instead, focus on what is happening in the moment.

3. Don't dwell on things in the past.

Bad things happen to all of us, and it's OK to take time and deal with whatever it is. However, dwelling on the past forever will only prevent you from moving on. Try to take what happens to you and use it to help you grow or change!

4. Never compare you or your life to others.

It's easy to compare ourselves and our lives to others with social media always handy. Seeing models pose with perfect figures and seeing celebrities live luxurious lifestyles can make you wish you lived that lifestyle too, but if you spend too much time comparing you and your life to other's and their lives, it prevents you from appreciating what you have and making your life better. You have the power to control your life, so don't spend your time fantasizing about different lifestyles, go make something out of your life.

5. Find a positive in every negative situation.

While this one may seem difficult, at times, it is possible! The curveballs that life throws at us are unexpected, but finding a positive in each situation or finding a way to turn it into a positive situation will benefit you more. Whatever happens to you in life, find a way to take that obstacle and use it to help you grow or even help others!

6. Find stress relieving techniques for you.

When you find yourself worrying about things or under stress, play around with different techniques that work for you. Reach out to someone you trust, try meditation or yoga, exercise, listen to calming music, read a good book, take a hot bath -- there are endless options out there!

7. Learn to be open-minded.

Learning to change your perspective and open your mind will help you understand things in a new light. Being open-minded will allow room for you to grow, gain new experiences and relationships, and overall better you in new ways.

8. Surround yourself with positive influences.

One of the most important tips for living a more positive lifestyle is by surrounding yourself with positive influences! You become who you hang around, so if you hang around people who bring you down and are full of complaints, soon that will be your outlook on life. Surround yourself with people who motivate you to be the best that you can be.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
