This Christmas, remember what this holiday season is about. Take a break, relax and spend time with the family. Think more about others instead of yourself and remember why we celebrate Christmas in the first place. These simple steps will ensure an unforgettable holiday season!
1. Avoid Black Friday shopping.
I have worked in the retail business for some time. For many Thanksgiving holidays I have had to leave my family to go to work. The truth about Black Friday is that the deals are not that wonderful. Stores know that people are already going to be out searching for deals. They don't realize or understand however that these deals tend to stick around for days, sometimes weeks after Black Friday. Also, the deals sometimes improve as time goes on.
2. Take some time to spend with your family.
We all know that this is what we are supposed to do during the holiday season, but we need to actually do this. We often get too caught up in working to make money for Christmas or we spend too much time shopping. We need to take time to do things with the family — sit down and relax!
3. Spend less, donate more.
We often forget that there are tons of people that need Christmas gifts a lot more than we do. This Christmas ask your family if they would like to adopt an angle or a family for Christmas. Also, instead of doing white elephant of secret Santa, donate money to charity!
4. Enjoy the gift of giving.
Many people tend to worry about what they are receiving for Christmas. They forget why we give gifts during the holidays. Think about how to make others happy and don't dwell on your personal gifts this season.
5. Remember the reason for the season.
We have gotten caught up in red cups and silly disputes. We need to stop fighting over minimally important things and remember the true reason for the season. Teach your children about Christmas. Make Jesus a birthday cake or open the Bible and read the Christmas story. I bet this Christmas will stand out if you do.
6. Try shopping online.
You will have more time with the family and avoid a lot of crowds. Many discounts and promotions are just as worth while online. Take the time to check it out and spend a little more time at home!
7. Bake. Bake. Bake.
Pinterest is our new best friend, especially during the holidays. Look up some fun new recipes and try them out.
8. Get creative!
DIY is so popular right now. Get some ideas and make Christmas presents by hand. You can paint ornaments or sew something cute for the family. They will appreciate and remember a hand-made, thought-out gift over a pointless item from Target.
