The typical thing to do after Thanksgiving is brain dump all that we're thankful for and immediately focus on the next holidays coming up. This time, I want you to stop and continue to be thankful for all the blessings in your life. These may be small, but they leave a big impact in your life.
Your health – I’m starting first and foremost with this because it really is the root of everything. You should be thankful every single day that you have your health and a general venue of health care that a lot of people don’t have access to.
Caffeine – Starbucks coffee, caffeine pills, Deet’s latte’s, Advocare SPARK. Whatever it is, caffeine is great, and especially during this time of year. Be thankful that you have access to these items that do nothing but help.
Your family – A common theme over Thanksgiving, but it is one of the fundamentals. No matter what time of year, you should always tell the people around you how much you love and care for them, and especially that you feel thankful for them.
Hot chocolate – This is one of those little things in life that just feels great to experience. Take the time to treat yo' self and sip on a fresh cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and candy canes to unwind during finals.
The final push of the semester – It’s especially hard to stay positive this time of year when all you wanna do is burn your school work and give in to the holidays. But be thankful that you’re receiving an education that makes you have to work hard for these last couple weeks.
Friends – Spending a week away from school friends over Thanksgiving was rough, and the full month away over the winter break will be even harder. So be thankful and appreciative that these people are around you during the wee hours at the library.
Jimmy Johns – This will likely single-handedly get me through finals with the addition of caffeine. Opt for this freaky fast delivery when cramming for finals as a less-greasy alternative to Chinese food and pizza. Thank you, Jimmy.
Frank Beamer – I had to save the best for last. There are some things that we all take for granted, Frank Beamer was at one point one of those things. In the middle of the season when Hokie football was looking rough, it was easy to forget what a great coach he is. Now, we are eternally grateful for the man, the myth, the legend.
