Sometimes you get in a funk; it happens to the best of us. Me? I’ve been in a funk for a few years now but I’m taking actions to improve my overall daily life. Due to the rut I found myself in, I’ve composed a list of things that can easily un-f*ck your day, your week and eventually your life.
1. Make your bed in the mornings
This is an easy one, even if it doesn’t feel like it when you’re exhausted in the mornings. I used to never make my bed but I found that coming home to a freshly made bed is so much more refreshing than coming home to an unmade one.
2. Push yourself to wake up early
Start with 8 am, then 7:30 am and before you know it, you’re up at 6 am every morning and able to get things done that most people aren’t able to get done in a day. Not to mention, this gives you plenty of time to make breakfast, coffee and plan out your day. Also, go to sleep earlier! Get a good night's rest.
3. Keep an agenda
Not only is it important to keep an agenda, but also make sure that you look at it in the mornings before you do anything else – even before looking at your phone! Your agenda is one of the most important things you can have with a busy lifestyle and it’s about the only thing that keeps me afloat.
4. Drink more water
How do I put more emphasis on this??? Water is of utmost importance. Without water, we become tired, groggy, lethargic and bloated, among other terrible things. With water, however, we are able to have more energy and also be less hungry (which helps with losing weight – if that’s what you’re into). Do what I do: buy a 1L water bottle and push yourself to drink two a day. Then, you'll have the right amount of water needed in a day.
5. Workout at least 3x a week
This is an easy way to make you feel much better than you were. Not only does working out on a regular basis give you more energy, but it releases endorphin's which make you happy. Like Elle Woods says, “working out gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people don’t just shoot their husbands."
6. Eat breakfast
Personally, my breakfast consists of a hard boiled egg, string cheese and protein smoothie (because I'm a vegetarian) but there are so many easy breakfast recipes out there for when you don't have time to even make a breakfast in the morning. Mine does not take long at all -- a few minutes max. But, if you have the time to make a big breakfast then do it! A healthy breakfast will jump start your day on the right note and give you the nutrients you will need throughout the day.
7. Find out what interests you
And then do something that involves that interest every day. It doesn't matter what your interest is. Crime? Travel? Romance novels? Find it and read a book or go to a museum about it. No matter what it is, if you focus on it a little more it'll brighten up your days because it'll make you happy.
8. Be nicer
This sounds like the easiest one but it is the most difficult and most important. These days, many people get lost in themselves or what matters only to them, but you need to focus on how you're treating others also. Are you the kind of person that you would fall in love with? I'm not. But, I'm trying to get better. This is so, so important to living a happy life. Do something each day that you can feel good about -- not only for yourself but just for the fact that you're being a better person. Let someone merge in your lane. Open the door for someone. Give someone a compliment (and mean it). All these acts can drastically improve your outlook on life every day.
It's easy to get stuck in a rut where you can feel yourself getting bad again but don't know what to do about it. I'm working my way out of one right now and this is just a small list of things that are helping me get through every day. Keep on smiling and trying your hardest in life and eventually, you will get there. I promise.
