It's no secret that social media has started some trends among the female internet population. It still blows my mind how something as simple as a tweet, Instagram picture or Facebook post can go viral, influencing nearly everyone in some way or another. Kylie Jenner once had girls going to the hospital for trying to complete the Kylie Jenner lip challenge... Yes, that was a real thing, people. So to prove my point that the Internet has girls everywhere hopping aboard the bandwagon of trends, here are 8 things that every girl is obsessed with thanks to social media.

1. Dogs

Have dogs not always been great? Pretty sure I’ve cried over dogs since I could talk and now all of a sudden these small, lovable creatures have broken the Internet. And let’s not forget to mention the Snapchat filter trend that has blessed our timelines with girl-dogs everywhere.

2. Starbucks

I often question what makes it acceptable to spend $4 on a caffeinated beverage just to Instagram or Snapchat a picture of it... (guilty)

3. Pizza

Pizza is the greatest food to ever be invented. It always has been and always will be my meal of choice. I've obsessed over eating pizza before it was cool to obsess over eating pizza. Now basic girls everywhere have this newfound love for cheesy calories.

4. "The Bachelor"and "Bachelorette"

Are you a true "Bachelor" fan if you don’t live tweet about how perfect Ben Higgins is or how psychotic Olivia is every episode???

5. Contouring

Most girls look like this:

And then I end up looking something like this:

I don’t know what it is about this makeup technique that has girls freaking out, but every time I attempt this on my face I end up looking like a discolored oompa loompa.

6. The Kardashians

# relatable

This family literally drives me insane. How is it that one single family has so many girls wanting bigger butts, bigger lips, and bigger bank accounts? Do people not remember why this family even became famous in the first place? And now we have millions of girls looking up to them, pretty much wanting to be just like them. Thanks, social media. Thanks so much.

7. Recipe videos

You and I both know you’re never going to make any of those 42 videos you’ve shared this month. All those videos do is make people hungry and put unrealistic food ideas in their head.

8. Taylor Swift, Beyonce, etc.

There's nothing wrong with having favorite artists or celebrities to look up to, but it becomes very unhealthy once that admiration becomes an obsession. I know social media makes Taylor Swift seem down-to-Earth and relatable 24/7, and I know social media gives the image that Beyonce is a walking goddess. But let's not forget that they are human just like you and me. Just because we don't have millions of followers on Instagram or someone to do our hair and makeup on hand whenever we please doesn't mean we are any less than them. Women like these are the reason so many girls stress about not being "perfect". No one is perfect. Not even Beyonce.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
