Everyone gets annoyed by different people, things, and habits. New Yorkers have a lot in common when it comes to getting annoyed. Here are just a few things that annoy New Yorkers.
1. When someone can't figure out how to swipe their metro card.
It takes two seconds to ask someone how to properly swipe a metro card, or to just read the directions. It isn't difficult. Still, people enjoy taking their time swiping each and every wrong way while New Yorkers stand behind them in agony as they wait their turn to swipe their metro card.
2. Getting on the train and shouting "Show time!"
When you're on your way home from work or school and someone gets on the train and shouts, "Show time," it means that they're going to perform a dance routine of some sort. They will play loud music and dance really close to you. They'll do stunts that are extremely dangerous and definitely not meant to be performed on the subway. This is perhaps the most obnoxious and annoying act ever.
3. Walking too slow on the sidewalk.
Don't do this. New Yorkers are always in a rush. If you're walking too slow on the sidewalk, we'll rush past you. It may seem rude, but don't take it too personally. It's all part of the culture.
4. Standing too close.
New Yorkers love space. On subway cars and buses, we hate having to stand too close to other people. Unfortunately, this is a really crowded city and this can't be avoided most of the time. It doesn't mean we'll ever love or accept it.
5. When someone asks for directions without knowing where they want to go.
Lots of times in the subway, tourists ask around for directions. They usually ask, "How can I get to the City?" Then, a typical New Yorker might ask, "Which part of the city?" Tourists usually don't know which part of the City they're headed to, and that can be frustrating because the City isn't just a one-stop destination. There are lots of different parts to explore. All New Yorkers are asking for is a specific destination!
6. Tourists.
Tourists tend to make New Yorkers angry because they stop every five feet to take group photos.
7. Delays.
New Yorkers are always in a rush. Unfortunately, there's always traffic in New York, especially in the city. This causes a lot of delays that make New Yorkers extremely angry.
8. People who play loud music without using headphones.
This is the worst on the trains and buses. There are signs that literally tell people to keep their headphones in and keep their music at a low volume. If everyone keeps their private devices private, then there won't be an issue!
