If you come from a big family, annual reunions turn into some of the best and most chaotic weekends of the year. In mine, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, second cousins, third cousins (I could keep going) and more travel from their respective homes to one little house on the countryside of the Northeast. Each time a new car pulls into the driveway, everyone runs from the tightly crammed living room to uncover the mystery of who has arrived next (and greet them with tens of hugs). Regardless of where your family members reunite or how many come, there are some aspects of these reunions that apply to almost every large family...
1. Fighting over the littlest (and therefore the cutest) cousins to play with once all the rest have reached their teenage years.
2. Getting asked if you have a boyfriend more than 10 times. The same goes for questions such as "What's your major?" and "How old are you now?" (or subjecting your boyfriend/girlfriend to these questions if they were brave enough to come along).
3. Waiting outside the door to run into the one bathroom shared by 35 people the second it's open. (Shower time is equivalent to wild animals fighting at the waterfront).
4. When the hamburgers are ready (see #3).
5. Eating hamburgers every night because it's the only thing that can be mass-produced to feed 35 people.
6. Swimming competitions at the lake.
7. Seeing dance moves you never wanted to see your grandma attempting at the family talent show.
And of course...
8. Enjoying every minute of it, because having a big family with big love is pretty great.
