8 Things My High School Sweet Heart Taught Me

My ride or die.

8 Things My High School Sweet Heart Taught Me
Susan DeGuide

My love,

We met during our freshman year of high school. It all seems so long ago. We grew up together through our high school experience. We walked down the hallways and attended school dances together. You met my family and soon became buddies with my younger brother. I was also warmly welcomed into your family and spent time getting to know how wonderful and kind they truly are. Together, we made tough decisions. Leaving home and going to different colleges was an adjustment for us. We agreed that our relationship was strong enough to handle it. And if it was meant to be, then it will work. We not only remained close during these changes but we became closer. Here are just a few things that you have taught me during our journey.

1. To Make Decisions

I need someone who threatens to leave Kholes because I couldn't decide what pair of shorts to buy.

2. You Know Me Better Than I Know Myself

You began to notice things about myself that I didn't see. I didn't see that I couldn't say no to people. It was refreshing and nice to have someone who truly cared for my better judgement.

3. To Always Be Myself

We changed for the better after high school and we could both see that it was good. Today, we make decisions together but we remain independent in our individuality. We encourage each other to do things that would better ourselves for our future. We don't let our relationship define who we are. I am not your girlfriend first. I am me. Just me and that is more than enough.

4. It's Okay To Make Mistakes

When I called you balling my eyes out about missing my ACT test you calmed me down and told me to take it as a lesson learned. You constantly tell me to not dwell on something that can't be fixed but focus on what I can do to prevent it from happening again in the future. You are always so positive when it comes to something I am upset about.

5. Chipotle Heals

It's our go to dinner location and we are proud of it. You are amazing for bringing me a burrito and watching "Frozen" with me after my car accident. It put a smile back on my face.

6. High School Would Have Been Terrible Without You

Dating all through high school has mixed reviews. We are still each other's ride or die. In high school we told each other everything about our day and supported each other in and out of school. I wouldn't have wanted to split a cookie at lunch with anyone else.

7. School is Easier With A Study Buddy

I leant you my notes a time or two and you help with my work load when I was too stressed to open a textbook. You made it easier to get through the day.

8. To Love

That's right. You taught me how to love deeply, reliably, patiently and unconditionally.

You never cease to amaze me with new adventures. You teach me something new everyday and I could never thank you enough of your constant effort of love.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
