College can be stressful, but I can't wait to be back!

College summers are long, I mean like, really long. Being home for three months can be relaxing at first, but you'll soon realize how much you miss college. For me, being home under my parents' roof again means I have less freedom and privacy than I do when I'm at school. I love spending quality time with my family, but I long for the days when I can get back to my routine and do as I please.

Even though classes and other commitments can be stressful, being back in college is something I look forward to so much. I can't wait to see my friends and become more independent again because there are so many things I miss about college. Here is a list of the eight things I miss most.

1. My friends

For me, my friends are the reason I love college so much. There is no one else I'd rather share my college milestones with than my BFFs, and I can't wait to live it up with them again this fall.

2. My independence

Being home for the summer means my parents are much more involved in my daily life. They always want to know what I'm doing, and I miss the sense of freedom I have when I'm at school.

3. My routine

When I'm at college, I have a very fixed routine. I go to classes, study, spend time with my friends, etc. When I'm home for the summer, my days are less structured. Even though it's nice to not have as much responsibility, I miss having a set routine.

4. Football games

With football season coming up, I can't help but feel excited about tailgates and game days. Football season goes by quickly, but it's one of my favorite parts of going to a big state school.

5. Nights out

Going to a school like FSU means a party or night out is never out of reach. Even though getting a break from partying is probably a good thing, I can't wait to go out with my friends when I get back.

6. My school's campus

FSU has such a beautiful campus, and I can't wait to be back on it. Sitting outside in the gorgeous Florida weather while doing my school work becomes so much easier when I'm surrounded by palm trees.

7. Local food

FSU has great local restaurants, and I miss treating myself to Vale or an acai bowl from Goodberry.

8. Campus recreation

Campus rec offers great gym classes, intramural sports, and other fun events. I can't wait to be back at school and get active and involved with all the fun!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
