8 Stupid Quotes By Stupid Presidents

It is a cycle that never fails to reappear. The end of one presidency hails the months of speeches, road signs, bumper stickers and interviews of campaign hopefuls for a shot at the most esteemed position in the United States: the chief of state, the chief executive, chief of military, the President of the United States. Months fly by with countless numbers of interviews, press conferences, briefings and diplomatic meetings that land the one successful candidate in the oval office. As the face of America, he becomes the first person everyone looks towards when he informs the public and addresses policy. Yet in all the sobriety of a formal statement to the people, you find yourself unable to stifle a laugh: despite all the preparation and rehearsing the president can undertake, he still manages to spill a hilarious, nonsensical or out-right stupid comment. Here are some stupid and cringe-worthy quotes by America's Great Presidents.

1. "There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again."

Quotes are a powerful tool when used in writing or speeches; especially among Presidents who particularly refer to the Declaration of Independence or an aphorism of a Founding Father. However, Former President George W. Bush is unlike any other President when he mentioned this "quote" which unfortunately missed its mark, but the new twist on the saying -- "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" -- definitely left a mark on his reputation.

2. "Belgium is a beautiful city"

Ah, the classic mistake of country for a city; it never grows old, unlike the white men who are continually elected as our country's Presidents. Rather than an age limit, we should impose a new requirement for running for candidacy: a geography test. That would set a new precedent that might actually be adopted by other beautiful cities around the world.

3. "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

Funny or deeply concerning? President Bush revealed the most startling piece of information to the American public in 2004 that may be even more shocking than Snowden's leaks in 2013.

4. "We have the greatest people on Earth in our military, but they don't have the right equipment. And their equipment is old. I used it."

I spoke too soon. Current President Donald Trump appears to be trying to out do his successors, and he seems to be winning. Unless President Trump recently used military equipment, we can be sure it wasn't from his military service because he never served, having deferred the draft, not once, but five times.

5. "You asked me to spell my name, so I figured that’s a form of harassment..."

Perhaps, Donald Trump should consider using a dictionary because he showed a serious misunderstanding of the word, harassment, which is surprising for someone who has harassed and insulted minority groups across the United States in publicly aired segments. In this rare case however, it seems necessary that President Donald Trump walk a mile in someone else's shoes until he truly understands.

6. "The news is fake because so much of the news is fake."

If it is true that the news is fake, then by default much of it will also be fake. President Donald Trump made this insightful statement during a Press Conference in February.

7. "...'He should be put in the electric chair.' You would even call for the reinstitution of the death penalty, okay?"

When discussing the possibility of receiving questions in advance of the debates, President Trump mocked dissidents who, as Trump puts it, would want to kill him. Rather than asking if he "received the questions", the real matter involves whether or not Trump is aware that the death penalty is still used in the United States, whether he knows about law and legal procedure, whether he knows anything about the United States. Maybe after this comment, Trump opponents will really want to kill him.

8. "We’re losing a lot of people because of the internet... We have to talk... about, maybe in certain areas, closing that internet up in some ways.

Sorry Donald, but closing up either the borders or the Internet simply can not be done. This sad misunderstanding of the Internet was followed by another terrible misunderstanding, but of the first amendment: "Somebody will say, 'Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.' These are foolish people." Some "foolish people", Founding Fathers Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, must be reliving their deaths at this moment.

Two of our most recently Presidents have been featured, skipping over previous President Barack Obama. As the (properly quoted) phrase goes, "the best for last", which applies in this case. Former President Obama was not listed above because he is a Harvard graduate, an eloquent speaker and masterful speech writer, and his language deserves no place among the stupid remarks of other leadership. He was our best: qualified, dignified and experienced. Especially in this time, it is necessary to open our eyes and ears, to reasonably judge our leaders and their promises to the American people.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
