It is the fourth week into spring semester here at SUNY Fredonia! Tests and quizzes have started, the weather is ever-changing, and you are starving because you hate the limited on-campus food. Spring break is just around the corner, and every stressed out college student is looking for their getaways for the week-long break. If you are an overworked student, here are possible signs you are ready for spring break!
1. You are already drowning in homework.
I am a second-semester sophomore that cannot remember getting homework assignments and tests given in the first month of the semester. As a communications major, I am assigned papers upon papers that I feel are never-ending. I have had two papers due, a couple of tests and a handful of quizzes due this past week alone. Just when you think you won't get slammed again after handing in your paper or walking out of your test, you get another one assigned to you.
2. You consider skipping classes...Many, many classes.
Occasionally, you will need to skip classes to finish a paper that is going to be due, or if you have a test to study for. Other times, you may consider skipping in order to sleep because you didn't get sleep the night before, you may have caught the "Fredonia plague," your alarm did not go off or you just felt like skipping. Sometimes you have to debate whether personal health is more important than stressing yourself out to finish deadlines.
3. You take every opportunity to take a nap.
There are some days where I feel like I need to take multiple naps because I didn't get enough sleep the night before. Whether it is due to not finishing your homework the night before or you stayed out late, you might not be able to make it through class if you don't nap. If you take too many naps, however, you might need the break to rejuvenate yourself.
4. You complain about the inconsistent weather.
Punxsutawney Phil did not see his own shadow, which means spring is arriving! For being Western New Yorkers, weather for us is ever-changing. One day the weather could be sunny and clear with temperatures in the near 60s, with the next day having icy and snowy conditions with temperatures in the 20s. Snow sometimes is inevitable, especially in Fredonia. Walking to class with yucky conditions and colder temperatures make us hopeful for the warm temperatures spring break will bring us.
5. You envy people who post about their vacations.
So far, I have seen a couple people post about where they are traveling over spring break. Whether it would be to Disney World, on a cruise, or even to New York City, for people who don't live there, any vacation would be nice. It gets hard when you are stuck either in your college town or in your hometown and you want a little getaway from all of your stress. Any change in scenery is an excellent way to relieve stress.
6. You crave off-campus and home-cooked food.
The food on campus gets boring, bland or it is disgusting in quality. The more times you eat on campus, you are just wishing you can have real food. Every time you go home, you make your parents buy and make all the food you crave while at college. You also are tending to gain weight unless you have really good control over what you eat due to the fact of the amount and quality of food you are eating. You can't wait to eat normal quality food again, and spring break is the time to get back on track with your eating habits.
7. You shop for cute summer clothes and bathing suits.
Advertisements for the latest fashion trends in clothing stores have begun to emerge. If you subscribe to their email list, they will send their newest collections with incentives to buy them. As an employee of Victoria's Secret, I definitely have a problem of wanting to buy new clothes and bathing suits with my discount. Seeing all of the clothes that you could be wearing if it was warmer out makes you wish spring break was here.
8. You take your weekends seriously.
If weekdays are hard to get through, you are going to want to spend the weekend how you want to, not how other people want you to. Whether you want to unwind and just watch Netflix, go out and party or just go home and chill out, you are still doing something that you want to do. You're not being forced to go to classes, study or do homework. The weekends can be used as a time to catch up on sleep or catch up with friends that you don't get to see during the week. However, if spring break was near, you'd be able to spend your time on what you want to do.
