8 Signs You Were A Camp Counselor At Camp Rim Rock

1. Riding

In a nutshell, riding is the girls of Camp Rim Rocks' life. I never thought I'd learn so much about riding horses, grooming horses, riding boots, and equestrian completions in just a few months. "Ty, will you please watch my ring today?" Hearing this question brought joy to my heart. It is a true testimate of sincerity. While girls are away at their favorite sleep away camp, you are their parent. They want you to be involved. If that means standing and watching them ride in the ring you bet, I'll be there.

2. Taco Tuesday

"All good things must come to an end." If you wanted to win the Sioux unit plunging competition Tuesday would be the day to request bathroom duty.

3. Hoedown

I hope you wore your dancing shoes because from campers to counselors, dancing feet are a-moving.

4. Stroll To The Knoll

To get to the knoll you have to take the stroll. I was encapsulated by beauty, walking through the trees, crossing the Cacapon River, and the laughter of friends near. Once you've reached the top, the valleys of the mountains are clear as day. A perfect background for a photo op.

5. Sleep Out

A night of sleep under the stars with great friends. As a city girl, sleeping outside wasn't even the slightest bit appealing. But I must admit, it was one of the highlights of my summer. There is nothing like sleeping outside. I felt free; free to breathe and free to reflect on my days at camp in total peace. The views were breathtaking. Waking up to the warmth of the sun beating on your face is simply pure nature.

6. Singdown

After all those endless hours of rehearsal and crafting props it's time to bring all you've got. Chant loud and chant proud. Always remember, no matter the outcome we're all winners at Camp Rim Rock.

7. Candle Float

Have you ever wanted to know what I'd be like to attend your own funeral? Candle float gives you this opportunity. From cabin poems expressing how big of an impact as a counselor you've made in their life, to a single candle floating down the Cacapon River in memory of your time spent at Camp Rim Rock. The song of your unit slowly fades to a quiet hum. "Country roads, take me home. To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain Momma. Take me home, country roads."

8. Friendship True

"Friendship true we will sing to you of happy times we have known." Friendship is certainly true at Camp Rim Rock. I have made lifelong friends who support me to no end and I do the same in return. Thank you Camp Rim Rock for showing me I am stronger than I give myself credit to be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
