As I just finished watching "Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" (which was fabulous), I first thought to myself “wow, they invest so much time into each other” and “they never leave one another alone!” But then as the ending approached (no spoilers, I promise), I realized that my family is quite similar to theirs in the fact that we are big, loud and in each other’s business a lot of the time. It made me realize that my family members are my people. And my people are my best friends. Here are a few reasons why I could never live without them.
1. They know when you’re lying. Please. Go ahead. Try and keep a secret from them (especially the whole love life thing). They will figure it out, and when they do, their support and advice are things you can’t live without.
2. They may be all up in your business, but it’s because you let them. Family wants to know the details, and though it may seem annoying at times, you eventually want them to know the details too. Being in each other’s business isn’t always over-bearing or over-crowding, it’s a way of loving one another.
3.They will always be around. Whether it’s a fashion emergency, or an actual emergency, family will always come at your beck and call. Because if something is important to you, it’s important to them too.
4. Your love never fails. Fighting happens within every family. Sometimes we just don’t get along, but when it comes down to it, we will always make up and forgive one another because that’s just what love does.
5. You are allowed to be who you are with no judgment. Whether it’s changing your major 20 times, or pursuing the career you have a true passion in, you know your family will support and love you no matter what.
6. Laughing is always a group activity. You just get each other. So your happiness comes easy, and you heart is full after just a few hours spent together.
7. Family will be loyal for life. You know the saying friends come and go, but family stick together forever -- it’s so true. Your family will be by your side and always on your side.
8. Even if you aren’t blood related, a family is an inseparable bond between a group of people. Big, or small, short, or tall. Family isn’t determined by the blood, but by the bond.
Families aren’t perfect; we all have our moments. But at the end of the day, we have each other; we have family. Family is for life.
