Going away to college really made me appreciate the relationship I have with both of my parents. I didn’t realize all of the values and knowledge my parents had instilled in me and personality traits I’ve inherited from them until I wasn’t around them every day anymore. My mom is someone who has always been someone I look up to as a female role model. Her strength and kindness are incredibly admirable and have greatly influenced the way I live my life. My father is one of the hardest working people I have ever met, and my biggest supporter in life. Sometimes it’s easy to forget the sacrifices our parents make for us and the little things they do each day. Without my parents, I don’t know where I would be today.
1. Thank you for home cooked meals.
Being home and having my dad make me eggs every Saturday morning and enjoying my mom’s amazing casserole really put into perspective for me what a mediocre cook I am and how thankful I am for their expertise.
2. Thank you for telling me when you’re proud of me.
Hearing your parents say they are proud of you is such an amazing feeling. It almost feels like you’re getting one small step closer to repaying them for everything they’ve ever done for you.
3. Thank you for being interested in me.
It’s really nice to be able to have hour long phone conversations at school with my parents about what’s going on in my life beyond “Hi how are you?”
4. Thank you for sharing in my successes, and being there during my failures.
For the never ending genuine support of all of my endeavors and kind words when I feel like I’m at my lowest. It’s so nice to know I will always have two number one fans in my corner.
5. Thank you for every piece of advice you have given me throughout the years.
When I didn’t understand your logic behind punishments in high school or when I needed a shoulder to cry on, you were there without a second thought.
6. Thank you for being a couple that I look up to.
It’s so clear how much you two love each other and how right you both are for each other. A love like yours is something special. Being raised by two people who are so in love and who provide such a loving home for their children is amazing, and inspiring.
7. Thank you for always being there to help me out.
Whether it’s a car that needs never ending repairs or a text of encouragement on a rough day, you are always there making sure I’m okay and taken care of.
8. Thank you for loving me no matter what.
I only hope someday I can show you both how thankful I am for all that you do, and hope to be half the parents you are someday.
