8 Reasons Why Your Dad Deserves Recognition
A Plus

In honor of Father's Day, I'd like to shed some light on one of the most important men in a girl's life. More importantly, the man in my life who I know I can always count on. From the very beginning, I've always known that I'd forever have a best friend in my dad, and above all, he'd always be someone to add color to my life. Here are some of the reasons why dads deserve recognition not just on Father's Day, but every single day of the year.

1. The endless supply of Dad Jokes.

Yes, even though I groan and roll my eyes at the constant jokes that only him laugh at, they're a crucial part of my day. I may not laugh out loud, but that's mainly to protect my own pride. I'd never admit that I actually look forward to hearing those bad jokes everyday, but I do.

2. He's a five-star grill master.

He's always so proud of his precious grill and all the new foods he attempts to cook on it. I see that little spark in his eye when he gets a new grill or new parts. They always somehow know the exact temperature to cook any type of steak or chicken in an instant. Thanks for all of the killer Sunday BBQs.

3. He was your first, and best, dance partner.

Thanks for letting me stand on your feet while we dance around the kitchen together. I miss being small enough to do that with you. I know that if I tried that now, I would easily crush your feet, and yet knowing you, you'd still let me do it.

4. He sends the best texts.

Yes, it's no secret that parents love to text their kids to know where they are and who they're with. But dads are special in that they send the most random texts. Whether it's a string of only emojis or a random picture of your dog while your away at school, texts from your dad never fail to make you smile.

5. He knows when to let you win and when to mercilessly crush you.

When you were little, he always let you win the games you made up (especially since the rules always seemed to benefit only you) and was your favorite rival. As you got older, he could tell when you needed the win for the day or when you needed to be crushed. Oh, and Dad, now that I'm older and it's an even playing field, you saying "Oh I let you win" isn't an excuse for losing.

6. His music taste.

He introduced you to what good music was from the very beginning. Thanks for all the car rides with the 70s and 80s music, even if I wanted to listen to Radio Disney instead. Because of you, I was opened up to a whole world of music and I owe my vast taste in music to you.

7. He sets the boyfriend bar very high.

They say that you're most attracted to people who remind you of your family. That being said, a lot of girls are in relationships with men who remind them of their dads. He's set the bar really high for someone to treat you with the utmost respect and care. That and OF COURSE someone who has a similar supply of Dad Jokes.

8. He's always going to be your protector.

Dads are always there to protect their kids. They only want what's best for you and will do everything in their power to keep you out of harm's way. Personally, I know I can always count on my dad to watch out for me and guide me in some of my most important life decisions.

Overall, my dad is one of the greatest men in my life. He makes my life exciting, adventurous, vivid, hilarious, and most importantly, meaningful. Thank you, dad, for all the amazing things you do for me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
