8 Reasons Why You Should Join a School Org
BPWOW

Whether you are a freshman or you already have one foot out the door as a senior, joining an organization on campus can only benefit you in most aspects of your life. As if meeting awesome new people was not enough of a reason, here are 8 more reasons why you should join a club, an org, or the greeks:

  1. Career Development Organizations on campus are like mini-companies that require your services. If you are coming in fresh out of high school and you need to spice up your resume to get that internship next summer, being part of an organization’s executive board can help you do that. You will not only develop accounting traits as a treasurer, for example, but you will also develop qualities like time management and teamwork, both of which will be a bonus on your resume.
  2. Personal Development Working on your career path should not be the only thing you should worry about while in college. Organizations can also help you grow personally and into adulthood. If you are the organization’s treasurer, for example, you will learn how to work with a budget, and make the most out of your resources; something that will go along way in your personal finances in college.
  3. Continuing Education At school, some of the times where I have learned the most were probably not part of the curriculum. Organizations usually host speakers, movies, conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance campus life. For members, these events are usually free, so make sure to get the most out of them. Bonus point: you will often find free food.
  4. Legislative Involvement If you like to get into a good argument, but don’t feel like going to law school, organizations are one of the best chances you will have to advocate for your causes. Most orgs, if not all of them, will surely be connected to your school’s student government, where your voice will most likely be heard and you can make a difference.
  5. Making a DifferenceandGiving Back Sometimes we are so absorbed by our textbooks or the internet that we forget that we are part of a community, and heck part of a planet! When you are part of an organization, you will most likely attend to different philanthropic causes that will bring the human out of you. Whether it is a 5K run for cancer or 'random acts of kindness', an organization is a great way to give back and help others.
  6. Leadership Experience Being a leader does not always come naturally, but if you have a passion to be a role model, support a team, and change the world, organizations are one of the best places to start. You do not need to be the president of the organization to be a leader. Being an active member can help you develop qualities like communication and teamwork, which are key for successful leadership.
  7. Lasting Friendships When you are part of an organization it is likely that you spend a lot of time with people that have similar interests and in doing so you will make friendships that can last forever. Greek life is a great way to build these friendships, but if you are not so much of a toga college student, clubs can also open a door to making new friends.
  8. Having Fun! Why not? Life is too short not to enjoy every second of the one life you got on this planet.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
