You know how sometimes you make schedules, and you then forget you had a few extra things to do? I can personally attest to that. Unfortunately, I'm not the best at writing down what I need to do and when. But there is one thing I know undoubtedly, and that's the time. I may struggle with deadlines on occasions, and that's entirely my fault for not writing those deadlines down, but I know I will always be on time to whereever I have to go. The reason being is that I have a simple device called a watch! Many people have them, many people don't, but what makes them so important?
1. They tell time.
Yes, it's very obvious, but sometimes people forget it! I see people with phones and watches. When they check the time, they check their phone! What has this world come to? If you're always running low on time, or need help managing your time, just look at your wrist. People talk about convenience all the time, and this device is very convenient.
2. It gives life a little order.
You don't have control of life. I don't, no one does! Life happens, and it's hard to keep track of it sometimes. When seven things are happening at any given moment, life kind of pushes you back. You realize you don't have control, and that's a scary thought. With a watch at least, you have control of the time. Well not physically, but you definitely know what time it is!
3. Stop checking your phone!
People are becoming zombie like the more technology advances. Even smart watches are getting incredibly complicated. Yes, it's cool that I can check my text messages and Facebook messages, but that's more distractions. The way I look at it is: If I need to know the time, I look at my watch. If I didn't have a watch, I would check my phone and get side tracked. It's not a good habit, but we all do it. At the very least, a watch can save you from accidental hours of Facebook scrolling when you have a midterm next week!
4. It's grown-up like.
Agree to disagree, I don't care! This I've found to be very true, and every interview I have been on, people comment on my watch. It's something to be proud of! Watches are stylish and really show your grown up side. It's hard acting mature all the time, so having a watch can save you half the effort.
5. Investments!
Young adults talk about investments all the time. Well, personally, I think a watch is a solid investment. Think about it: If you treat it well, it lasts a long time. They can help on interviews, make you look professional, save you time and do many more things. It's a small investment that will carry on for the rest of your life.
6. They are full of expression.
Watches come in many shapes and sizes. You don't need an expensive one. Get one that fits what you're doing and that describes you! A watch is your accessory, and if you are going to wear it, you might as well rock it. Maybe one day when you're feeling really happy and care free, wear that Mickey Mouse watch you got from Disneyland! If you want to go surfing, wear the nice cool slim surfing watch, and know when the tides are.
7. It's the one thing you know.
When you don't know anything you'll know one thing - the time. Just like how you don't have control over life, you don't know anything. Going through life makes you feel like you don't know anything. Especially during midterms and finals, or during a crisis. It always calms me down knowing the time and seeing the slow ticking of the second hand. It could be just me, and I might be really weird for that, but looking at the watch work calms me down.
8. Gadgets!
I love gadgets, and I love watches, which is why my watches always have something cool with them. I like to surf and when I do my watch gives me the tides at the local beach. Not only that, but if I ever find myself 200 meters in the ocean, my watch will still be intact. I may never be that far down in the ocean, because my head would pop from the pressure, but that's still cool. Also, during ROTC when we low crawl in the mud, my watch is mud resistant. I like all the cool little gadgets watches come with, and honestly watches overall make your life easier.
So go out there and buy yourself a nice watch!
