I don't know who wrote the quote in the subtitle, but they hit the nail precisely on the head. Having friends who will stick with you (or on you) regardless of the circumstances are quintessential to a happy life. Those who stay with me are usually the most goofy bunch of weirdos out there; if you've ever had friends like these, consider yourself blessed. Just a few of the things that make silly friends the best ones include:
1. As soon as you meet them, you have an unspoken contract.
Anything you say and do cannot be used against you unless you're playing the copy-paste game. Otherwise, what happens at 2 am stays at 2 am.
2. They're always awake at insanely late hours.
Did you have a bad day? Can't think of an inspiration for your paper that's due in six hours? No problem! Your friends will be up at 2 am with a cup of coffee and a bag of Rolos to help you brainstorm. Or goof off. Either one.
3. ...which means that you can make fun of them even more.
The morning after a late night is always a blast, as you stumble through your day and try not to fall asleep. It's made even better by your sleep-deprived friends tripping over their words and running into things like a drunk. Who says you need alcohol to be stupid -- er, have fun?
4. If you make a mistake, they'll help you laugh it off.
Whether you tripped in front of your CFA, printed your draft instead of your final copy, or forgot about a meeting until the last minute, your friends will have a snarky comment at your expense loaded and ready. Ridiculous friends are a constant reminder that if you can laugh at yourself, you will never lack amusement.
5. They'll gang up on you with your significant other to poke fun at you.
It's like reading a fan page about you, if that fan page was dedicated solely to embarrassing you and making you want to slap everyone involved. Snapchat will bear the proof of their "abuse" so everyone can see how much they really love you.
6. Your parents have only heard about what a jerk they are and wonder why you put up with them.
"Why don't you get some nice friends?" Because nice is boring, that's why. Also they take me out for food and somewhat enjoy my company, which we all know doesn't happen a lot. These friends are like the siblings you never knew you wanted (and you're still not sure you want them sometimes).7. You can say awful things to each other while still knowing that you love each other.
Remember how we were taught to never call each other bad names? Like so many other items of common sense, your friends aren't governed by this rule. Sometimes all it takes is a, "Good job, moron," or, "Oh, well look who's Sir Fancy-Pants with his new mechanical pencil. Everyone make way for the lord of newfangled writing implements!" to brighten up your day.
8. You know that they'll always stick up for you, no matter what.
At the end of the day, no matter how many innuendos are made, how many times you punched each other, nor how many insults you've slung, friends like these will stand up for you. They care about you more than you realize.
The friends that can make jokes at each other's expense together are bound to stay together. I mean, you kind of have to, considering all the dirt you have on them. You're always digging yourself into a deeper metaphorical pit when you're with them and you cannot put down the shovel -- it's become a part of you. And you know what? That's just the way you like it.
