Christmas is, by far, my favorite time of the year. The entire Christmas season and all the jazz that accompanies it just brings me joy in a way nothing else can. You may not feel the same way, but maybe some of my favorite things will change your mind.
1. Christmas music.
Christmas music isn't for everyone, and that's okay. However, I am definitely one of those people rocking out to "All I Want for Christmas is You" in September, and I have absolutely no shame whatsoever. Christmas music is a whole genre in itself, and you're just going to have to accept that it will be playing when you're with me.
2. Christmas movies.
I will admit that Christmas movies are sometimes easier to enjoy than Christmas music. Even if you don't like the classics like Miracle of 34th Street or It's a Wonderful Life, I haven't met many that aren't fans of Elf. I don't care what time of the year it is; Will Ferrell is funny at all times, and Christmas is no exception. There's a Christmas movie out there for everyone. If there's not one you like out there, you may just be a cotton-headed ninny muggins.
3. Christmas cheer.
It seems like everyone gets a lot nicer around the holidays. Maybe the season makes them really happy. Maybe they're just sucking up their "scrooge-ness" in hopes that the season will just fly by. Who really knows? Whatever the reason is, I vote for Salvation Army bell ringing and holiday candy giving year-round. Who's with me?
4. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS.
I don't need to explain this, but I guess I will. There is nothing better than driving down the road and seeing a magical, mystical display of dazzling lights. Now I could do without all the blinking lights with every color of the rainbow, but I'm a sucker for the classic and classy light displays!
5. Shopping a ridiculous amount.
As if you needed a reason to shop any other time of the year, Christmas provides a reason to justify mall trips, and who doesn't want that?
6. Parties on parties on parties
So. Many. Parties. Three parties a week seems like a lot on a normal week, but three parties a week during the two weeks before Christmas is weak. Everyone becomes a party animal in December.
7. Christmas food.
I'm not sure if there's a certain food that comes out specifically at Christmas, except for Christmas tree sugar cookies and fruitcake, of course. Eating Christmas food basically means eating lots of the same food that is served year-round, and who isn't looking for an excuse to go for seconds?
8. Traditions.
Maybe you decorate your Christmas tree with your family. Or you make Christmas cookies. Or you have matching PJs you wear. Traditions are very important during the holiday season. They give meaning to the holidays, and the holidays wouldn't be the same without them, no matter how ridiculous or silly they are.
