1. Experience

The reason everyone takes an internship! You'll get loads of great experience in your field, and you'll have a great resume-booster to boot.

2. Networking

The hiring manager you interviewed with for your internship? That will be the same person interviewing you when you apply to work there. It never hurts for them to know you're a hard worker, motivated, and enjoyable to be around.

3. It's better than a normal job.

If you can find a paid internship (best of luck!), it's more interesting and rewarding than busing tables or mowing lawns for the summer.

4. You get to do cool stuff.

Chances are you'll be doing real, substantive work that you'll be proud of, and that excites you. It's a great way to determine whether you'd actually enjoy what you're going to school for.

5. You get to meet other college kids.

If you got an internship, chances are somebody else did, too. You get to meet someone who's your age, interested in the same stuff, and you get an immediate lunch buddy!

6. Travel

Maybe you're applying for that internship in Washington, D.C., or somewhere else you've never been. Many companies and government organizations offer internship programs at their headquarters. Check them out! Spending a summer away from home can be as beneficial as the internship itself.

7. You get to dress like a real adult.

I mean, who doesn't like to suit up?

8. Coffee. All the coffee.

Even if you get the best internship imaginable, you're still going to be getting some coffee now and then. Best part? You probably won't ever have to pay for that Starbucks while you're there.

If you don't know what you're doing this summer, think about getting an internship in your major field. You won't regret it.
