8 Reasons Best Friends Make the Best Roommates

This year, I decided to take the plunge: I moved in with my best friend.

Time and time again I have had people tell me never to move in with a best friend because it will just lead to totally destroying your friendship. They said we would fight all the time or get annoyed with each other and I had to say it made me a little nervous, but after two years of mostly terrible roommates I honestly didn’t think it could get any worse.

To quote the words of my role model, Taylor Swift, those “haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate,” because I’m living with my best friend and I am loving every minute of it. Here’s 8 reasons why.

1. It’s like a sleepover. Every day. Except you get to sleep in your own full size bed with no one else vaguely snoring in the middle of the night and still wake up to each other!

2. Two words: CLOSET SHARING. I know we all have those nights where despite the upwards of 20 outfit options we have in our closet, absolutely nothing is working. That is when you can shop your best friend’s clothes and find a cute shirt for absolutely no cost to you. You probably know every article of clothing in their wardrobe so you know exactly what will go perfectly the new pair of dark skinny jeans you’re rocking that night. Mi closet es su closet.

3. Accountability. Whether it’s when they catch you binge-watching Netflix on the couch when you’re supposed to be in your 11:30 lecture or lying in bed when you said you were heading to the gym, your best friend slightly shames you into doing what you know you should do. They know if you don’t do it you’ll probably end up complaining about it all day, so it’s really a win-win situation.

4. They make the most mundane activities fun. When a simple laundry trip turns into a three-hour ordeal involving trekking your soaking wet laundry across campus to a sketchy Laundromat because all of your dryers decided to simultaneously stop working, it’s great to have your best friend there with you to share in your misery and help you laugh it off as you go.

5. They will always be 100% honest with you. Your best friend is not afraid of offending you or saying something you don’t want to hear, so they will always speak what is on their mind if you come to them for advice. They will tell you that your dress does look absolutely ridiculous with those wedges or that you really don’t quite have to right face shape to pull of that hat and it is totally alright. You know that they have your best interesst at heart and you just have to agree with them when they tell you that you can’t wear your yoga pants to the bar.

6. You always have someone to walk home with you. With how dangerous off-campus gets late at night, the fact that you almost always have someone going to the same exact address you is fantastic. Whether it’s walking home from the library late at night from an intense study session or coming back from a party on the opposite side of campus on a weekend, it’s great to have that person you can count on to walk you home because lets be real do you ever really do anything without them?

7. You never have to leave your apartment to have a good time. Whether it’s an impromptu wine night because school sucks or an OTH binge, you can have just as much fun staying in your apartment because any time you and your best friend spend together is going to be a good time.

8. BECAUSE THEY ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND. They know what it means when you say you’re fine but you’re really not fine. They know the exact face you make when you’ve had a few too many and need to leave the party right now. They know every detail of drama in your life so they can pretty much handle of your crisis situations. They know to tell you need to stop talking to that boy at the bar because they’ve heard he is a total sleaze. They know you. They get you. They love you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
