People always ask me why I reread books. To be honest, I don't really have an answer. Sometimes I just want to experience the story one more time. Sometime when I read a story again after a long period of time, even though the words on the page are the same, what I get out of it changes. These are some of my top picks for summer reads.
"Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky
This book is so much more than its tagline quote, "We accept the love we think we deserve."
"Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher
This book will change the way you look at life. It will make you laugh out loud, but it will also make you cry. A fresh perspective on teen depression and suicide.
"Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" by Ransom Riggs
This story is based off of creepy old photographs, but it is really good. All of the pictures included are used to describe the children that live with Miss Peregrine and the unique abilities they possess.
"The Harry Potter Series" by J.K. Rowling
You can't just read one, it's an all-in experience with this series. A must read for any age.
"All the Bright Places" by Jennifer Niven
This book will mess you up. You will experience so many emotions that by the end, you won't know how to feel about this book. It is so addicting and unpredictably predictable. You'll probably want to have some tissues close by.
"Wonder" by R.J. Palacio
August Pullman is your typical 10 year-old boy. He likes Star Wars and Xbox. A seemingly normal boy, except for one thing: he was born with a severe facial disfiguration. Although it is about a middle school student, I would suggest this book for any age.
"Looking for Alaska" by John Green
Miles Halter is about to be shipped off to a boarding school his dad once attended in Alabama. A lover of biographies and famous people's last words, he goes to seek the great perhaps. I am convinced that John Green is tuned in to the inner workings of the teenage brain.
"The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton
Ponyboy is just trying to do well in school so he can make something of his life. When he gets jumped by an opposing gang member, things take a turn for the worst and it looks like life will never be the same again. This coming of age book is something that will stay with you long after you finish.
These are some of the really great books that I have read. These books are the kind of books that stick with you and remain good, even if you read them ten years later.
