8 Pros And Cons Of Coming Home For The Holidays

We all have this love hate relationship with coming home for the holidays. We love coming home for the home cooked meals and sleeping in your own bed, but there's also the struggle of being bored half the time. Heres a small list of pros and cons of coming home for the holidays.

1: Pro: Home cooked meals. Finally!

As college students we all struggle with the whole eating thing. We can hardly cook and when we do, half the time we end up burning it. This then leads to us going to the cafeteria or eating out with the money we do not have. Safe to say having a home cooked meal is pretty much the best thing ever.

2: Con: You miss your friends.

College is basically a place where you live with your friends 24/7. You see them all the time and it becomes normal to see them all day. You study together, eat together and watch movies together. So when you come home and you no longer are able to do those things you really start to miss them.

3: Pro: You see your best friend.

Maybe this does not apply to everyone but for me my best friend goes to school in another state. So weekend visits are not much of a thing. So coming home to having her wait at my house for my arrival was pretty awesome. Yeah sure we might have only laid in bed, watched movies and got coffee, but just being together again was great.

4: Con: You're bored.

Coming from college when there is always something to do at all times of the day any day of the week, to home when you literally just sit around all day can be hard. You go from this fun out going environment to a place where you sit around and sleep all day in hopes someone will be willing to hangout at some point. When your family goes to bed at 10 and you're sitting there like, "My night is usually just starting right about now."

5: Pro: You are the super star.

Everything becomes about you. You are the parodical son coming home. A child returning to the mother land. Everyone wants to know what you have been up too and everyone wants to give you a hug. Yeah it can be over whelming, but at the same time you are feel pretty great.

6: Con: You have to listen to your old house rules.

This is probably the hardest thing to do. Being away at school for so long, living on your own and doing what you want at any time of the day is awesome. But once you come home everything changes. You now need to tell mom where you are going and who you are with, you need to eat your veggies and you gotta drive the siblings somewhere.

7: Pro: DOG.

You get to spend so much time with your dog. Do I need to say more?

8: Con: Chores

No one likes chores. No one likes doing dishes, cleaning your room or picking up dog crap. No one likes that at all. Although you are happy you are home with your furry best friend you do not miss picking up after them.

Have a good holiday everyone!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
