8 Pros And Cons Of The Semester Ending

The year flew by and finals are approaching. With that on the horizon, we obviously have to note the light at the end of this tunnel; we get to go home. The semester coming to a close has its pros and cons, were all itching to get out of here during finals week but when it's actually time to go back home we end up missing our college lifestyle like crazy. We find ourselves getting homesick throughout the year and at times we literally hate everything about college but deep down we know we love our school and really don't want to leave it for the summer. But at the same time going home means no homework or tests to study for, no more laundry, cleaning or grocery shopping. We are back to our high school state of mind. Summer is our break from college, it's a time to reconnect with our high school friends and just relax, but in the back of all of our minds were all really missing our college lifestyle.

Pros of the semester ending:

1. Home Cooked Meals

There really is nothing better than mom or dad's cooking. That cafeteria food just isn't cutting it anymore after seven to eight months of school. A good home cooked meal is something college kids learn to wholeheartedly appreciate.

2. Home Friends

Summer is meant for reliving stupid high school memories with your home friends and everyone talking about what their college life is like. I can't wait to be back home with all of my friend groups. Summer concerts and beach trips are what we live for.

3. Driving Freedoms

Ugh if you're a freshman who wasn't allowed to have their car this year, you know the feeling of actually feeling trapped because you don't have your car. We all are itching to get back to that freedom of road trips at your fingertips.

4. Favorite Restaurants

Um yeah, the minute I touch down we all know I'm heading to my favorite pizzeria.

5. Pets

I don't even have a pet but I know this is a big deal. So to all of my friends who keep saying they miss their dogs and can't wait to go home to see them, this is for you.

6. Basically A Kid Again

Not having to worry about adulting all the time leads you to channel your inner senior year of high school self and you basically end up forgetting what responsibility even is.

7. No More Homework

Ever since you were a little kid you know that summer meant no more homework and this will basically forever live on.

8. Endless Sleeping

Whether sleeping in late is your thing or staying up late, everything is fair game. You can sleep all day and nap whenever you want and not have to worry about a test you should be studying for.

Cons of the semester ending:

1. A Daily Routine Is No Longer a Thing

To some this may be a pro but I actually learned to enjoy having a day filled with stuff to do. Having so much free time in a day actually gives me anxiety. I can't believe I even just said that. Who am I? Basically what I'm trying to say is that going home and leaving college life behind really is a big change and change is scary.

2. Missing Your College Friends

As a freshman you missed your home friends but now once you go back home you end up missing your college friends. We live a tough life.

3. No More Usual Weekend Plans

No more going to your usual spots from Thursday-Saturday. Being a fake adult at college will be missed at home.

4. No More Pool/Beach Days

Going to school in Florida I have the gift of being blessed with a pool or beach day every day and going home the weather just isn't the same. I have to say goodbye to two of the best beaches in Florida and hello to the Jersey Shore.

5. The Environment

Another Florida blessing, I wake up to palm trees every day. New Jersey just isn't as beautiful.

6. Parents Are In Control Again

It's great to go home and be a kid again, but at the same time at college you're used to answering to no one. Once you're home you actually have to deal with your parents saying yes or no to you once again.

7. No More Meal Swipes

If your mom isn't cooking you a meal, you actually have to pay for food. You can't just swipe into the caf anymore; real money applies here.

8. Working

If you aren't blessed with your parents giving you everything you and many other college students will have to ultimately get a summer job so that you can use that money for when you come back to school. #nofun

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
