October usually signals the beginning of pumpkin spice take over, sweaters everywhere, glorious 60-degree weather, and the fall leaves that make for killer Instagram photos. On the other hand, it also signals the middle of the semester, a.k.a. midterm time.
Midterm week serves two main purposes: it is kind of a preparation run for finals week, and also can be a wake-up call to how badly you need to get your stuff together in order to receive a passing grade in a few (if not all) of your classes.
Here are pictures depicting the feelings you'll probably find yourself having during the upcoming week.
1. Your professor hands out a study guide.
Study guides can either be a saving grace, or can cause you to study irrelevant material. Unfortunately, this all depends of the professor of that particular class. May the (hopefully) multiple choice questions be ever in your favor!
2. That moment you are able to fill out only half of it with answers.

Wait, did we really learn this? The definition isn't even in the textbook? Why can't I find these answers in my notes? Did we seriously go over that many slides while I was scrolling through Facebook?
3. You basically lose your social life and sleep in order to study.

Your schedule goes something like: eat, sleep, study, shower (when you have time), repeat.
4. Feeling frantic causes your study methods to be less and less conventional.
Anything, from dusting off old superstitions to rewriting your notes on college ruled paper only -- it's all fair game. This is typically the pre-exam stage that consists of attempting to appeal to a higher power and making promises in exchange for a passing grade. However, this usually just ends up turning into you searching Pinterest for study tips more often than actually studying.
5. The day finally arrives! First page is multiple choice, and your confidence is through the roof.

At least until you get to the last page with the trap of all exams: short answer questions. It becomes a constant flow from brain to pencil to paper while you attempt to write down every relevant word or phrase that you can think of.
6. You start panicking when others start finishing before you.

Well, you can be positive and just assume it's a 50/50 chance.
7. Finishing the exam feels something like this.

No matter how positively or negatively you feel about how you did, at least it's over.
8. You stride out of the classroom and -- BAM!

Walking out of the room and away from your responsibility feels so refreshing!. Sadly, finals still stand in the way of you and complete freedom.
Best of luck to all midterm-taking college students!
