College is certainly not easy, so here are some phone apps to make your experience even easier! And since college isn't cheap, I made sure to only include phone apps that are! All of the following apps are free and should be utilized by any Pitt student.
Venmo
Venmo is an extremely convenient way to transfer money to a friend, roommate, etc. My roommates and I use the app to pay each other our share of the bill each month. You can make and share payments instantly and request money from others. It also connects to your bank account for easy transfer.
Mint
This app allows you to spend smarter and save more! You are able to pull all your accounts and cards into one place so you can more easily track your spending. It also allowing you to create a budget and receive bill reminders. A definite plus for Mint is that it requires a four digit PIN so only you can view your account. That way if something ever happens to your phone, you can delete all your information remotely.
Pinterest is the perfect way to get tips for decorating, recipes, outfits, you name it. A perfect app for any person of any age, Pinterest is, hands down, one of my favorite places to look for ideas for just about anything.
Tapingo
This one is for those people who would rather be eating. Tapingo is a way to order your food early for pick-up so you can skip the line. It’s very convenient if you have a very short break for lunch because you can order things while you’re still in class. Tapingo even has delivery now, so you can get some of your favorite restaurants delivered; for example, Chipotle, Noodles, and Sorrentos.
Ride Systems
Live up the hill? In the depths of South O? Well, this is the app for you! Don’t just stand around waiting for the 10A to show up, look at Ride Systems and know exactly where the 10A (or whichever other Pitt shuttle you are looking for) is and have some general idea of when it will get there.
Pocket Points
Pocket Points is an app that gives students rewards for not using their phone during class. Simply open up the application and lock your phone, and you get rewards. You can get different discounts from nearby restaurants depending on how many points you’ve earned. Once, my boyfriend and I got a few dessert from Fuel and Fuddle! The app has some glitches, but when free or discounted food is on the line, it’s worth a try.
Snapchat
This is somewhat of a silly addition, but with the existence of Pittsnaps you know this one is an absolute necessity.
Evernote
The main job of Evernote is to allow you to write notes and checklists, all while keeping them organized in different “notebooks.” You are able to attach files and keep PDFs and photos. You can also use the search feature to find anything in your notes and photos. My favorite part is that it allows you to sync up multiple devices. I have the app on both my phone and laptop, so I have my lists wherever I go.
