While it may be summer, and most of of us have reduced or no classwork pilling up to be completed, that doesn't mean the other difficulties in college have subsided along with it. I wrote an article similar to this last fall entitled "8 Bible Verses For When College Is Getting The Best Of You," but in my mind you can never get enough scripture and guidance at any and every point in life, so here's a few more bible verses sure to put a little pep in your potentially slightly dragging step. Heck, even if your step is already peppy and not at all dragging, read on for some of my favorite verses of inspiration!
1. "For with God, nothing shall be impossible" -Luke 1:37
Nothing. It doesn't get much more straight forward than that. If you continue to rely on God and His strength through everything life throws your way, He will never fail you. If you live your life in His name and His alone, there's is nothing that can keep your from reaching your dreams and even beyond. Trust in His name and His love because with Him by your side, you can do it all.
2. "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" -Hebrews 11:1
Throughout college and as we begin to become adults, it's often difficult to just blindly believe. Not just in our faith, but in so much more because we want to see it, hear it, feel it, touch it, to know that it's there. While our faith is not resembled by anything physically on this earth, it is still here. Our faith is how we live our lives, trusting that The Lord will guide us. It's the miracles that happen, no matter how big or small. It's knowing that no matter what, when we have our faith, we don't just have anything we could ever want, we have everything.
3. "Jesus replied, 'You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.'" -John 13:7
God knows you. When you think, when you hurt, when you love, when you pray. He knows what you want in your heart and what you think is best for you in that moment. But just because you want it, doesn't mean it's what He wants for you. He has our plans and knows what's going to fulfill that for us. I am so thankful looking back, even on my life thus far, that he didn't just give me what I thought I wanted. Just because God may not give you the answer you want, when you want it, doesn't mean He's ignoring you, and it's so easy to forget this. One day, whether it's next week, next month or in 10 years, it will all fall into place as you realize why everything happened for whatever reason and in that moment, rejoice, because we have an all knowing God.
4. "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life" -Proverbs 4:23
Protect it. That's it. Your heart is going to hurt and so is mine. Heartbreak over school, work, friends, family and all of it are inevitable once in a while, but don't let it become a habit. Whatever life may throw your way, trust your heart, but keep it strong and protected. Keep in mind that your strength lies within it and one day, if we trust in it and The Lord, we will find ourselves happier and better off than we could have imagined.
5. "Faith can move mountains" -Matthew 17:20
It's all about faith. Every year throws new problems, issues, battles and mountains in front of us. Sometimes when we first face them, we look up and wonder "How the heck am I going to get through this? There is just no way." Which can often turns into the case of too's. I'm too weak, too little, too lost, too dumb, too whatever it may be. But with God by our side, we don't have to worry about any of those. With faith in Him, we can do any and all we put our mind to.
6. "Your pain has a purpose" -Philippians 1:29
Let's be honest, life can suck sometimes. We all get hurt; whether it's physical, emotional, spiritual or mental or anything else and nobody likes it. But The Lord tells us that His plan for our life is so much greater than anything we can imagine and each little hurt is preparing and building us towards those great things that are in store for us.
7. "Let us not love with words or speech, but with actions in truth" -1 John 3:18
I love you. It means a lot to many different people, but we all say it. Each of us has those we truly love, and express that love to verbally, whether it be friends, family, significant others or whoever. We are challenged by this verse and many others throughout the Bible to not only speak, but show that love to those around us. Not just those who reciprocate it, but everyone. Even those who don't particularly love or even like us, He asks us to love all of his people regardless of how we may feel about them, in fact even more so when it is those people that don't show that love back to us. We don't know what's going on in their lives and even if we think we do, God asks us to be his disciples and love them as He does.
8. "For the battle is not yours, but God's." -2 Chronicles 20:15
I love this one. it's short, sweet and to the point. It is direct and easy to understand, yet in another way it is so deep because it means so much. It's easy in times of distress or strife to ask: "Why?" "Why me?" "Why this?" "Why now?" "Just, why God?" We are all guilty of it from time to time, maybe a little more often than we would like to admit. But, in these times, that's when we should remember this verse. If God is putting us through it, he will bring us through it. By relying on The Lord through any and everything that is going on your life, you will emerge victorious much faster, better and stronger than you could have alone.
The more I worked on this article the more I realized that in some way, every verse I came across could be included. Although the Bible and these verses are over 2,000 years old, it applies to our lives in so many ways it's almost unbelieivable. I loved being able to explore and find verses that applied to my life and hopefully yours in some way, too! If you feel inspired, start reading from one of these verses and continue to finish that chapter, book and maybe someday a majority of the Bible.
May God fill the rest of your week with His love and grace!
