Everyone has experienced the quirkier side of YouTube. It may be because your bestie sent you a link to an adorable Corgi video, or because you've browsed the recommended section and decided to try out the video with three million hits. These eight categories are only the tip of the weird iceberg.
1. Uncomfortably intimate vlogs.
It is easy to forget that anyone can make an account and upload their deep feelings and emotions for all of the internet to see, and then we stumble upon a video that definitely wasn't meant for our eyes. Usually these videos involve lots of eye contact and oversharing.
2. Angry rants.
Anger had never been so viral. In a world that revolves around connectivity, finding an audience for your anger has never been easier. The category of rants is defined by bursts of adrenaline, talking in circles, and jerky movements. This video is an old internet classic.
3. Animal compilations.
What list about internet videos would be complete without this? This category is characterized by adorable, fluffy, and mischievous animals. Set over some dated techno, these videos will not only pump you up, but they'll fill you with laughs.
4. Home medical treatments.
These videos are not for the light of heart (or for people with sensitive stomachs). People watch these videos for the same reason they pick at scabs. I don't know exactly why that is, but it gives you the same kind of satisfaction. These are categorized by bodily fluids, squealing assistants, and lots of paper towels.
5. Dads dancing.
They're hip and they've got moves. Dads have been pulling out all their stops years before the internet. Now kids finally have a platform to expose their embarrassing parents to the whole wide world.
6. Robots.
This is a wide and varied category because nothing else really can encompass the diverse and strangeness that involves animatronic devices. These are the type of videos that make you appreciate effort and advancements in technology. These are also the sort of videos that make you wonder if the people ever stopped to think, 'Have we gone too far?'
7. Kids alone in their rooms.
Kids left to their own devices plus a whole lot of boredom never ends well. These videos involve random objects, grainy cameras, and titles that start with "The Adventures of..."
8. Inspirational videos.
Nothing like a motivational speech to get you up and accomplishing your life long goals. Some of these videos have nice calm older gentlemen urging you to make the most of your life...this video is nothing like that. It's so much better.
