Going into college, you have such high expectations for yourself. You have this idea that you'll never miss a class, always be on time, and get that 4.0. About 2 months into your first semester, you find yourself in a place that's far away from that utopia of a world that you had envisioned for your college career. Let's face it, college is exhausting! It wears on you and is a full time job in itself. We develop these habits that are simply inevitable in our tired and busy states we find ourselves in.
1. We become caffeine dependent.
We need coffee. We need caffeine essentially in the form of an IV to keep up with all the demands we're under every day. We're perpetually tired and will need energy drinks, coffee, and every form of caffeine in our hands at all times.
2. We take procrastination to an art form.
We don't just do the typical high school procrastinating, no no, we kick it up a notch and make it into a professional sport, a hobby, a pastime, if you will. We will procrastinate to unbelievable lengths. We will push limits. The assignments due at 11:59 pm on Sunday? Say no more, we'll get right on that mymathlab homework at 10:00 pm sharp.
3. We collect parking tickets.
I'm pretty sure that parking on campuses everywhere is far from ideal. It's frustrating and ridiculous. We stop caring about where and how we park, and just take the chance of getting a ticket. We'll almost always return to a pretty little citation on our windshield.
4. We have 0 willpower when it comes to wing night and karaoke or Thursday nights.
Thursday morning comes around and we are telling ourselves that we're going to stay in and get all of our studying done, but we are lying to ourselves. We give in. It all starts with the wing night pre game and goes downhill from there. Friday morning we'll be sitting in class with a greasy breakfast sandwich and a large coffee with a turbo shot of regret.
5. We ignore that 6 am study alarm we promised ourselves we would wake up for.
The night before you procrastinated studying until the last minute. An hour into studying at around 11 pm, you decided you were too exhausted to study. At that point, you started to negotiate with yourself. You set conditions. You could go to bed if you set an alarm to wake up early and study. You promised yourself you wouldn't sleep through it. Right after you made that promise, your alarm sounded off and it was 6 am. You ended up hitting "snooze" 5 times until it was 8:20 am and your exam was at 9 am. Cheers. *Well hey, if you don't know it by now, you won't know it.*
6. We'll nap at every possible opportunity, and if there isn't an opportunity we'll make one.
Did I mention we're tired? We bribe ourselves to go to class by promising our beds we'll return ASAP. We'll start our days by planning our nap time. We'll plan our days around our nap time. Napping: major key.
7. We become addicted to pizza and pasta.
We love carbs. Love them. We love wing nights, we love every kind of pizza: frozen, campus pizza, take out, pizza in all forms. It's what we can afford and it's what we like. It's a staple food, a delicacy to college kids every where. It has a "pizza" our hearts.
8. We give ourselves personal days.
Hey, we earn it. All jokes aside, we work hard in college. There's a lot required of us. We study hard, we get everything done somehow, and we make it through some pretty hard days. We sometimes have to miss classes to get caught up in another. We sometimes take a day and sit in the library just to get our academic lives in order. Others, we need a day to ourselves. We need time to get it together, get a solid workout in, relax a little, and get things done. Some times we give ourselves a day, and that's okay.
