It can be easy to get lost in a week packed with exams, needy customers, group projects, and your morning commute. But making these eight habits a part of your routine can enhance your happiness levels and help keep you smiling:
1) Drink water. A lot.
I drink water throughout the day but especially right when I wake up and before/after every meal. Staying hydrated is an easy way to fight off sickness, cleanse your body of toxins, and maintain radiant skin.
2) Keep photos around your living space.
I love seeing photos in frames of my family and friends when I'm sitting at my desk. Even when I am home alone, I am reminded of their loving presence.
3) Delete Toxic People.
You know exactly who they are. Forgive them and then erase them.
4) Read.
I don't like to say that reading is an escape because that implies that there is something to escape from. I like to think of reading as experiencing an adventure that was thought up in the beautiful mind of someone else. Go ahead, call me a nerd.
5) Express Positive Emotions Whenever Possible.
In a good mood? Smile at a stranger. Think your mom looks pretty in her profile picture? Tell her. The only thing better than feeling happy is the feeling of spreading happiness.
6) Indulge Once in a While.
See that cupcake in the store window over there? Go get it girl. Eat that thing. It is so important to allow yourself to savor and enjoy something decadent now and then. Having self control is admirable. But if I see a girl chowing down on a cupcake with not a care in the world, I admire that girl. Life is short.
7) Keep Your Space Clean.
A nice clean (or at least semi clean - a little clutter's not going to hurt anybody) living space allows you to have a clear head. This means that there is more room for creative, positive, productive energy.
8) Love yourself.
I know, it sounds cliche. But trust me. Once you fall in love with the warmth in your eyes, the way you laugh when caught by surprise, and the kinks in your hair when you sleep in on Sunday morning, you will no longer need affirmation from others. You will be more in control of your happiness.
