1. You watch the entire opening ceremonies just to see Team USA walk in, completely missing the symbolism behind the rest of the night
Doesn't this just make you proud to be an American?
You may not understand anything else that goes on, but that doesn't mean you won't sit through the entire ceremony just for a glimpse of the greatest country making its grand entrance.
And also, Gisele.
I have no explanation for this.
And also, Tonga.
I need no explanation for this.
2. You question whether Katie Ledecky is actually human.
When I grow up, I want to be Katie Ledecky even though we are the same age. She's just so awesome, cool, and already carrying the Olympic hopes and dreams of the nation on her back. #goals
3. You suffer through a series of mini heart attacks watching the women's gymnastics team.
All five of them are pretty much flawless in every way, but that doesn't mean I don't still hold my breath every time they go flying through the air. It's not physically possible for their bodies to be able to move like that, right?
4. You shed a tear watching Michael Phelps win another gold medal (or seven).
No matter how many times he gets up on that starting block, it never gets old. Watching the greatest Olympian of all time is just as exciting in his last race as it was in his first- even he still gets emotional every time he is on the podium and the Star Spangled Banner starts to play. It gets even better every time, especially now that he has his son to share his victories with.
5. You shed more tears at the thought of Phelps ever retiring.
Because when you think "Olympics" and "USA", you think "Phelps". They just go together, and it won't ever be the same without him. Watching him swim in what he claims was his last race and receive his last ever gold medal was amazing and heartbreaking. We miss you already :(
6. You Google "American Olympic swim team holding puppies" at least once a day.
Because:
*heart eyes for days*
I am of the opinion that the American swim team is one of the most genetically blessed group of individuals ever assembled. Amazing athletes who also happen to be easy on the eyes plus adorable puppies is a combination I am happy is in existence.
7. You find yourself getting way too intense about sports you didn't even know qualified as Olympic sports before.
Fencing, cycling, synchronized swimming, handball- if the Americans are winning, we'll be watching (and screaming)!
