There are eight different kinds of guys that every sorority girl takes on grab-a-dates. Keep track of how many you have taken.
1. The DAB
DAB stands for Drunk Ass B*tch. This is the heavy drinker who actually can't handle his alcohol, the guy who is so determined to kill the fifth the two of you are splitting that it seems a little aggressive. And by a little, I mean a lot aggressive. After killing said fifth, he usually has very limited speaking skills, his eyes are generally blank (if they are open), and his dancing skills are restricted to sub-par flailing movements. This guy on a grab-a-date can also tend to be loud and obnoxious, depending on how much alcohol was consumed, and generally gets kicked out of the venue.
2. The Dad
This is the guy you take as a friend who is generally concerned about your well-being and how much fun you have all night. He is less "all about the party" and more into making sure you are having a good time and are not too intoxicated. He can be fun but also kind of a buzz kill if he thinks you're acting too wild. However, worst case scenario, if everything goes south, he will most definitely make sure you get back home OK!
3. The Dude
This is the guy that is all about his bros and acting cool. He is going with a squad of his friends and that's who he spends most of his time with at the grab-a-date. He might come off as if he thinks he's too cool to pose for a picture or participate in all of the activities. This guy absolutely does not want to be seen in any sort of embarrassing karaoke, hypnotism or dance off situations. Beware, if you take this guy on your grab-a-date, you may be missing out on some of the fun.
4. The Homie
This is the guy you have absolutely no interest in hooking up with. He is one of your good guy friends that you actually enjoy spending time with, and he is down to participate in all things grab-a-date. He prides himself on his dorky dance moves, which makes the night all the more fun. Overall, this guy makes your night interesting, and you do not end up at the end of the night feeling like you chose the wrong date. When in doubt, always bring The Homie.
5. The Boy Toy
This is the guy you are taking for no other reason than because you really really really want to hook up with him. You have absolutely zero romantic interest in him. However, the two of you randomly have ended up together at the end of a party at some point in the past. It was fun then, and now you want it to happen again. The grab-a-date provides the perfect excuse.
6. THE Boy
This is the guy you ask on your grab-a-date because you have a little school girl crush on him. He is the boy that you get all giggly around and make a fool out of yourself with. For this guy, you spent hours before the grab-a-date obsessing over the perfect outfit to wear, crafting a look that is both cute and just a little revealing to make sure you capture his attention at the venue. If this date reciprocates your crush, it will be one of the most fun grab-a-dates you have ever been on. If this guy does not feel the same way, you may end up Ubering home early, a little sad and ready to go back out to party with your friends.
7. The Set-Up
Everyone has been with this guy on a grab-a-date. The initial meeting at the pre-funk is the most awkward 10 minutes of your life, until the actual pre-funking really sets in. Even then, it might not get much better. If this guy is really shy, it is unlikely you will have a good time with him at the venue due to lack of interesting conversation. If this guy is extremely outgoing and up for whatever the night brings, it is likely you have met a new version of The Homie or THE Boy. For those of you who have experienced the second form of The Set-Up, count yourselves very lucky. This kind of date can either leave you praising or cursing the person whose idea it was for you to take the leap of faith and go with The Set-Up.
8. The Boyfriend
Everyone knows his name. When he makes it on the bus, everyone shouts excitedly and high fives him. He is a regular on your grab-a-dates and a fan favorite amongst your friends. This is a guaranteed good time. If you are lucky enough to find yourself bringing your boyfriend on a grab-a-date, congratulations, you have officially made it to the Forbes list of grab-a-date experiences.
