Even if you aren't usually the distracted type, driving, or just being in the car in general can be a whole other ball field. It always feels like every little thing is a distraction when driving. At least, for me it is! Whether you are driving a normal route or on a road trip, the silliest or most random things can catch your attention.
Music
We all listen to something while we're driving, right? Be it the radio, our phones, CDs or even audiobooks. Ever get so caught up with a song that you are belting out the high notes like a pro (or even dancing) that you forgot a turn or started speeding? Sorry mom, but we all do it!
Bumper Stickers
Agh... These are the worst. I know others feel like they are just decorating their car with cute or meaningful stickers, but darn it now I have to know what they say! Yes, I will get close enough to read them, and I will try not to tailgate you in the process. Do not get me started on the political stickers. I am too nosy in an election year to not know who is driving with Trump stickers. Sorry, I like have to know who is driving those cars.
Roadkill
I know, disgusting, but I immediately think "OMG, what animal is that? Poor groundhog," then try and not continue to run over it.
Windows
What's so bad about windows, right? But it is everything the windows cause. I would much rather have a fresh breeze than the AC, but I also want my hair to stay out of my face and for the bugs to stay outside. Needless to say, I try to pick the AC more times than not.
Dogs
Dogs are the best driving distraction. If I were to get in an accident while looking at the dogs outside or in other cars, that would be OK with me (sorry Dad). Their little tongues hanging out and their faces taking all the hits the wind has to give, now that is adorable. Then, I want to guess what kind of dog it is! Sometimes I roll up next to a car with a dog in the passenger seat and start talking in a baby voice until the owner/ driver notices and I realize the dog can't hear me.
Fireflies
Fireflies are my favorite part about summer nights. I was driving home last weekend and it was like the grass sparkled! I was so in awe, I almost forgot I was driving.
Makeup
Anyone else ever realize that the only time you notice that your makeup is messed up, is in the car? I can't fix it right now, but I know it will bother me the whole trip. I wonder if I can fix in at the next red light? Great, the one time I didn't want a green light.
Your own thoughts
Driving is the most alone and quiet time yet hardly peaceful. But what if? What do I want to do about ___? Why did I have so much pizza? So many things to think about.
