The best time of the year is upon us: autumn. It's cold, the seasonal fruits and vegetables are ripe and ready to be picked, and it includes Thanksgiving and Halloween! It's time to dive in and discuss all the best parts of autumn!
1. Pumpkin Carving
Whether you're talented enough to create pop culture characters, or if your talents end at scooping all the guts out, carving pumpkins is a great activity for autumn. You can roast and season the seeds, create a homemade facial with the pumpkin guts, or make your own desserts with real pumpkin!
2. Apple Picking
The best place to get a pumpkin is at an orchard. You know what else you can find in an orchard? Apples! There are many different kinds of apples you can pick for pleasure, to fill the fruit bowl on your counter, or make pies, sauces or desserts! Nothing is better than hand-picked apples.
3. Scary Movie Marathons
Build a blanket fort and get the popcorn ready because autumn is the best time to indulge in scary movies. And no matter whether you snuggle up close with your significant other, best friends, or pets, get the stack of DVDs ready. It's time to stay up all night long and sleep with the lights on.
4. Trick Or Treating
We've all participated in trick-or-treating since we were wee little kids. Most of us, before we could even walk on our own. Lots of us still went throughout high school. And I encourage all college students to continue to trick-or-treating. Bring on the free candy!
5. Cold Weather
Goodbye shorts, crop tops, and flip-flops. It's time for jackets, sweaters, and boots. Just as the air becomes crisper, I grab my blankets and make enormous amounts of hot chocolate and warm lattes. The weather enlightens my fashion to new levels and inspires me to bake more and more. It leaves me craving a spooky movie at the end of the day.
6. Leaves Changing
With cold weather comes the beautiful changing of the leaves. They create picturesque backgrounds that we use to help commemorate our autumn activities. Don't forget to celebrate the reds, yellows, and browns that are just now beginning to dust the trees around us.
7. Pumpkin Flavored Everything
Despite its connotation to the "common white girl", everything is magically pumpkin flavored at this time of year. Some of the products are ridiculous, and I shamelessly cannot get enough of my Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Don't shame your pumpkin love, I know I don't.
8. Apple Desserts
Apple pie, apple crisp, apple cider, applesauce, apple donuts, apple cookies: where we don't see pumpkin, we see apples. The spread of products is even better than copious amounts of pumpkin. So take the time with those freshly picked apples from the orchard and go make a sugary mess in the kitchen.
