I am not exaggerating when I say 8 a.m. classes in college are the worst decision you can make for yourself. You will be exhausted and end up hating yourself for voluntarily choosing this method of torture. I have made this mistake before as well and I understand that you might not have had a choice in the matter. Scheduling is difficult and you might have reeeeally just wanted a nice lunch break. However, now that you have officially screwed yourself over for the year, you will probably need a few of the following to make it through some painfully early mornings:
- COFFEE: It seems like a given, but you better bring as much of that goodness to class with you as you can physically carry. Nobody will judge you for swilling mocha out of a gallon-sized mug. Some braver students tag team coffee and energy drinks. This is not a suggested method for the weak at heart—both figuratively and literally.
- Messy bun: A cute hairstyle is not going to happen when the “marimba” jingle wakes you from bliss 20 minutes before you have to leave. Wrap that mess in a bun after applying a healthy amount of dry shampoo and you’ll be good to go.
- Over-sized sweatshirt: This is the next best feeling besides actually being in bed.
- Leftover makeup: Last night’s eyeliner is this morning’s smoky eye. Bring along a little concealer and no one will be the wiser to your late night studying/partying habits.
- Fully-charged phone: You have a long day of sending ugly pictures to your friends ahead of you. You might even be able to sneak some Netflix watching into the slower classes. Don’t let a low battery cut New Girl short.
- Snacks: Maybe it’s just me, but a long Biology lecture always gives me low blood sugar. Is that weird? Well, bring some pretzels anyway.
- Colorful pens: At least this way you can make your 12-page notes look a little more exciting.
- Pep talk: Remind yourself why you love your major. Cultural anthropology might seem pointless when the sun still has yet to rise, but it will be worth it in the end.
