7 Ways To Be Happier

We all deserve to be happy.

Is anyone ever truly happy? A lot of times we go through life forgetting about our own happiness because we are wrapped up in too many things. Here is a list of a few ways to help happiness become a little more attainable:

1. Let go of all judgment.

By letting go of all judgment and criticisms, you free yourself from the invisible strings you’ve let hold you for so long. You can do anything you choose to do despite how silly or crazy you may think you look. Don’t focus on what’s wrong, but focus on the positive.

2. Don't be afraid of change.

A lot of times change is terrifying. We like things to stay the way they are because it’s comfortable. More times than not, stepping outside of our comfort zone enables us to do things we never thought possible. Try that new food or go to that party because the outcome may surprise you.

3. Give up your desire to be right.

We all love being right, but sometimes our need to be right inhibits us from seeing the bigger picture. There are two sides to every situation and a lot of times, no one person is completely “right.” Is it better to be “right” or to compromise in a way that everyone is satisfied?

4. Stop looking for validation from other people.

Don’t look to other people to tell you what you're doing is right because almost every time, your actions affect you much more than they do someone else. Give up your need to be liked because being liked does not guarantee happiness. Get away from the limits and standards that other people put you into because at the end of the day, the only validation you need is your own.

5. Don't give up on your dreams.

You should never let anyone else tell you your limits. There's a saying: Reach for the moon, because even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.

6. Embrace your feelings.

It’s much easier to binge watch Netflix, eat a pizza, and pretend like nothing’s wrong. But a distraction like this only offers a temporary relief. Face your feelings head on. It’ll be a little more painful but in the long run, will be easier than leaving bad vibes looming over you.

7. Live in the present.

We tend to look back on the past with rose-colored glasses, meaning we see it much better than it really was. Give up on the past because those moments are gone. Take advantage of the people, time, life, you have now because instead of wishing for the past, you can create the future you deserve.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
