Being home from college has it’s perks. After finals, I know I'm looking forward to winter break with my family and it's understandable why
1. Shower pressure
We all know the feeling of crappy dorm and apartment shower pressures. Your hair gets greasy quicker and doesn’t fully wash out products you put in your hair. When you’re home, you don’t have those problems, and you truly start to see a change in the health and look of your hair after a couple of washes
2. Home cooked meals
Wait, so I don’t have to order pizza every night? Nope. When you’re home, mom is cooking you breakfast, lunch and dinner. And it is tasty, and way healthier than the crap you’re eating at school. And of course, when mom is missing you, she might even take requests of your favorite foods.
3. Your own space
For the people who live on campus, you know what I’m talking about when I say your own space, your own room. You don’t have to worry about sleeping in or taking mid-day naps, you can leave your light on until early hours of the morning, and you can watch whatever you want on TV without being judged. And who could forget the best perk of all? Queen bed with a comfortable mattress… Yes this is heaven.
4. Laundry done for you
Being home is perfect for laundry. You don’t have to go to the sketchy laundry room where you have to make sure you have enough quarters to get you through the wash and dry. You even bring your entire laundry basket sometimes, because you know mom is going to hook you up. And of course, she’s not too lazy to separate whites from color, so you’re in the clear.
5. Cuddling with a pet
For some, it’s a cat, and for some it’s a dog. Hell, some people even have hamsters or fish. But we love them because pets are the best friend you can tell all of your secrets to and they can’t spill them. Sometimes we want to come home just to see them. But they love you no matter what grades you got last semester or how many questionable decisions you made. And you love to steal them away and sleep with them at nights.
6. Catching up with old friends
Being home is nice to catch up and reminisce on high school and your childhood. And now that you’re coming from freedom, there are no curfews, so you can enjoy a night out with old friends to catch up on their lives away from home. Of course, unless your parents are like mine, and cannot go to sleep until you’re home. In that case, you feel incredibly guilty that you are depriving your parents from sleep.
7. Being spoiled
It seems to be that the longer you are away from home, the more you rack up points or presents. So try to make sure you have a couple of months in, that way you’re missed more, and way more appreciated.
And then, after a couple of days of proper nourishment, cuddling with your pet, healthy hair and cool presents, you outweigh the cons with pros and decide you have got to find a way to go back to school as soon as possible. Once you’re given the freedom and perks of being an adult, it’s difficult to play by mom and dad’s rules.
