As a student away from home, I have a few group chats constantly in my messages. Whether they're my school friends, home friends, or family, there always seems to be a trend. Within each group chat, each person typically adheres to a stereotype. There are those that are always talking, never contributing, and those that just tend to bring up those random moments you completely forgot about. Here are the various stereotypes that I have found in my messages. And to my friends who identify with each one, know that I love you and wouldn't change you for a second.
1. The Confused One
This friend is the one who usually has no idea what's going on. Whether it's regarding plans or debating which guy is cuter, this friend is always asking questions. You start to wonder why they can't scroll up and take two seconds to fill themselves in, but you answer all of their questions anyway.
2. The Chief
Ah, the chief. Otherwise known as the one whom you can always count on to come up with ideas, make the reservations, and everything in between. They'll yell at you and possibly text you separately if you don't answer in a sufficient amount of time. Despite their somewhat bossy behavior, you appreciate them endlessly for putting in the effort you don't want to.
3. The Silent One
The silent one tends to be the chief's worst nightmare. You know that they're reading every single message, but just don't feel the need to give their opinion. Or answer any questions. Or tell anyone what they're doing until two minutes before you're supposed to leave. You call them out about this once you're all together, but nothing ever changes.
4. The One with the Embarrassing Pictures
While there's a good chance this is many of you, there tends to be one friend who saves all of the pictures of moments you want to forget. If the conversation is lagging a bit, they'll never fail to send that picture of you from Saturday night with the caption, "Remember this?" Yes, you will remember it and you will cringe when everyone reminds you of it for the next three days.
5. The Roaster
This friend will definitely capitalize on any chance to embarrass you. They may not be the one sending the pictures, but as soon as they see it they'll immediately make a remark worthy of an "Ooohh" or "Burn."
6. The Crazy One
The crazy one never fails to be anything but that: crazy. They will be the one to ask everyone what the plan is for the night because they're always ready for a night out. They have the most absurd stories that you couldn't imagine if you tried, but keep the group chat talking for hours. It's always good to have this person in your friend group because you can count on them for hours of entertainment.
7. The Best Friend
Alright, I'll admit it: this is probably everyone. Whenever someone writes that they're upset or need to be rescued, everyone responds asking how they can help. These people are probably some of your closest friends, and you know you can count on them for anything. Whether it is driving around with them for hours blasting Taylor Swift, or eating a pint of ice cream after a break-up, your best friends are with you through thick and thin and you'll be forever grateful.
