7 Trends I Will Unapologetically Bring Into 2017

I've seen a lot of videos and articles about what people want to leave behind in 2017. I want to look on the bright side and talk about things I want to bring with me in 2017. Some of these things, you have probably seen on someone else's "get rid of" list. I, personally, am not ready to give these things up, and therefore, will be unapologetically bringing them into the new year with me!

1. HIGHLIGHT

Everyone loves glowy skin! I love the way highlight makes me feel when it’s glistening in the light. Now, we all know too much of anything is a bad thing so let’s try to keep it subtle. But other than that, highlight for the gods! Blind those haters, honey!

2. FAUX GLASSES

I have always been a fan of glasses. They are very versatile! They can make a person look more classy & sophisticated or cozy & care free. I hope that people who have to wear glasses are not offended by this trend because we are certainly not trying to make fun of you all. We aren’t acting like we are blind without them or telling our inaccurate prescription to everyone. They are more of an accessory. I have always wanted to wear cute glasses, so I am definitely here for it!

3. MEMES

I must agree that they are becoming so overused that some of them are just plain stupid if anything. But there are still some good, solid ones that are just beyond hilarious. In this troubled world full of sadness and grief, the people need some easily amusing comedy.

4. NETFLIX

As much as we all complain about Netflix wasting our time because there’s never anything to watch, it has always been available to me in my time of boredom. I have found some priceless gems on Netflix. Let me assure you I will complain all day long, but still pay that bill when it comes in.

5. BODY POSITIVITY

Let us learn how to look beyond someone’s clothing size. It’s so shallow and so 2016 to praise stick figures that represent unhealthy habits. Let us learn how to appreciate all shapes and sizes (and skin tones for that matter). We are all fearfully and wonderfully made. Each one of us uniquely designed.

6. SELF LOVE

This one speaks for itself. You will not make it anywhere without it. You will not prosper in 2017 without it.

7. BOOTCUT JEANS

These used to be so outdated for the past year. Recently, my friend wore a pair and I realized they were so adorable on her figure! I predict that bootcut jeans will make a comeback this year so be on the lookout.

It is no secret that many American traditions have changed over time. As we grow older we change in so many ways that it only makes sense that we also change the way we celebrate special occasions. Of course when it comes to the holidays there are some family traditions that many of us still excitedly look forward to, whether it is eating your favorite dish or seeing favorite cousin. However, we all know that the holidays have overall changed a little from what they used to be.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
