When looking to join a Sorority, it can be very scary. For those who have some, no, or even every idea what to expect, the nerves and jitters succumb to everyone. The main goal is to find your home and your people, but sometimes we do not realize what we are searching for. The whole process can be confusing, plus adding in all of your emotions and the stresses of being away from home can take a lot out of you. I decided to compile seven things that helped me get through rush in order to find my forever home.

1. Become close or get to know your Gamma Chi

The first person you will meet within the recruitment process is your Gamma Chi. I believe it is beneficial to get close with her because she will be your go-to girl for everything. She will become the shoulder you cry on, the person with the Bandaids for your blisters and the person you jump with joy when you love a house.

2. Do not consult with your roommate

I know it can be exciting to talk with your roommate about rush and all the houses but do not. Sometimes if you love a house and say your roommate hates it, your idea of the house may change from what you are hearing. Try and keep to yourself, your Gamma Chi or even your mom may become the one you vent to.

3. Shoes, shoes, shoes

I learned this the hard way, bring an extra pair of shoes to change into, especially flip flops. From all the walking you do, it is best to wear comfy shoes to lessen the blisters and pain.

4. Bring a notepad

One of the best things is bringing a notepad to jot down your emotions and thoughts after every house. You will be talking to so many people that you forget how you felt at some houses or who you even spoke to.

5. Ask questions

Do not be afraid to ask questions, everything is such a new world that sometimes we forget to ask what we really want to know.

6. Sleep, food and water is a must

Some days you will be going for hours, but do not forget to take care of yourself. Sometimes it's hard to find the time, but you need to put your health and rest first.

7. Relax

It may sound weird, but sometimes you have to take a breath and relax. Everything can be overwhelming, but the people on the other side of it are just as nervous. Relax, calm yourself, and win big!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
