In the wake of Valentine's Day, all of the single people tend to feel a little depressed. It seems like all your friends, family, and every person on the street has a special someone delivering them chocolate and flowers, while you were at home in your sweatpants on the good ol' day of St. Valentine.
Listen. It may sound hokey, but being single isn't a bad thing. Everyone needs some time in their life just to be alone and get to know themselves.
1. Dress yourself up.
Putting on your favorite outfit, doing up your hair, and finessing the perfect makeup look is not just something to do for a date. The saying "when you look good on the outside, you feel good on the inside" is really true -- so slap on some lipstick and feel yourself!
2. Take yourself out.
You don't need a second person to go out and do something fun. I'm not saying you need to have every meal by yourself, but it is healthy to do something on your own once in a while. Go take a nice walk through a park, or grab a coffee at a cute cafe and read a book. If you're feeling brave, you should even try to go out for dinner or see a movie on your own. It's a really good way to spend some quality time with yourself.
3. Treat yourself.
Have a day of treats, a la Tom Haverford. Go get a manicure, buy a new dress, splurge on a gourmet meal, whatever brightens up your day! You know yourself best, so grab something that'll make you happy.
4. Write love letters.
Okay, maybe not literally like "Dear me, I want to marry you." But, a great way to boost your self-confidence is to note things you love about yourself. It can be as simple as "I looked really nice today" or "I'm so hilarious I made my friend pee their pants today." You're an amazing person, so don't let yourself forget it.
5. Do something you want to do.
You might not realize the advantages that come with being single. You don't have to confer with another person to decide where to eat, what to do, when to go to bed or wake up. So do something you want, a tick off your bucket list. You want to drive to the Grand Canyon? You want to dye your hair purple? Do it!
6. Have fun with your friends.
The word "single" implies that the person is alone. Just because you aren't in a relationship, you still have so many people that love you in your life. Hang out with your friends and family and just enjoy yourself!
7. Enjoy being single.
Let's be honest--you're a catch. You're not going to be single forever. So take this time you have with you, and live it up. Be independent, do something crazy, go on as many first dates as you want, just do you.
