It's been said for years that a dog is a man's best friend. If you've had the privilege of owning a pup, you can attest to the joy they bring to the lives of their owners. They are more than just playful pets: They are lifelong companions that exemplify what it looks like to love unconditionally.
We can learn a lot from the attributes they possess. We can all be a little bit more like our furry friends, except without the fur and four legs.
1. Always greeting us at the door.
They've waited all day for you to come home and they show that excitement with a wagging tail and slobbery kisses.
2. Forgiving and forgetting
Dogs don't hold grudges, even when you forget to refill their water bowl or scold them for getting into the trash. Their limited memory is a beautiful example of "letting it go."
3. Loyalty
Dogs aren't flaky. They're either in it for the long haul, or not in it at all. You can always count on your pup to have your back through thick and thin.
4. Loving people for who they really are
They couldn't care less about your academia, clothing choices, appearance, or past mistakes. Heck, dogs still love you when you first wake up, morning breath and all. That's love.
5. Their ability to comfort
Sometimes, when you're feeling down, all you need is the love of your dog. They can sense sadness and do everything they can to lift your spirits up, without even using words.
6. Selflessness
No one exemplifies selflessness quite like a dog. They value the ones they love so much that it shows in everything they do.
7. Their carefree spirit
Granted, they have no real responsibilities, but their worry-free attitude is one to be admired. Dogs seem to have confidence that everything will be OK and we should too.
So, give your dogs a hug and thank them for showing us how to live and love.
