7 Things To Do While Dating

A girl's guide for guys (and girls) in a relationship.

7 Things To Do While Dating
Cari Schlossberg

Dear boys,

You may think you know all you need to know when you are dating us girls, but actually, you don't. Us girls are very complex and sophisticated as part of the human race. It takes one to know one; essentially girls understand girls meaning it is probably difficult for you to understand us. This is for you boys!

1. Are we all that you think about?

First thing is first, we are women and we like to know that we are on your mind. We love it actually. It may seem unusual, but it reassures us that you actually care about us. Of course, we will worry about you cheating on us, so don't give us reason to believe that. Tell us how we're all you can think about, if not all of the time, most of the time.

2. Honesty is the best policy

At least for me, I'd rather you be honest about your plans or schedule. I like knowing when I get to see you and spend time with you. Also please, pretty please be honest about simple things like when you are telling us things. We also really like communication, it shows that you're committed.

3. Compliment us

This shouldn't be something I have to write, but I'll do it anyways. Always compliment a girl. It boosts our self-esteem and we really enjoy knowing that you appreciate something about us. It doesn't have to be all of the time, but every once-in-a-while it's a nice surprise.

4. Be affectionate

This may not be the same for everyone, but for many girls, we like affection. We are born nurturers and we love getting affection and love. Whether you're holding us, hugging us, kissing us, or we're just cuddling, we love it. It's just another thing that makes us happy and that should be the ultimate goal.

5. Ask us questions

Small talk is the worst talk, especially if that's all you do. You don't have to dig deep into our personal life, but at least ask us questions about what we want to do or what kind of day we had. These questions have easy answers. Plus, they will show us that you are actually interested in our life and along with better communication skills in the relationship.

6. Please don't lead us on

If you feel like you're not going to be committed in the relationship, or you just don't feel that same "spark" you once did, don't lead your girl on or cheat on us. It's heart breaking for us when you do. It also ties back to that whole communication thing and being honest. Just a simple life saver: don't lead us on.

Of course, all of these are things that girls could and should be doing too. However, as a girl, I know what we want to hear from guys and these are just some of the most important topics. Good luck boys!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
