If you're anything like me, you have a hard time making friends with other girls. It isn't like I'm trying to isolate myself from making "girl" friends, it just unintentionally happens. I've always found myself hanging out with the guys. They're laid back, up for anything, and nowhere near as judgmental as girls. While I love it dearly, there are a few things that tend to happen when you see yourself as one of the guys.
1. You Seem To End Up Stuck In The Mud. Literally.
Summer in Northern Minnesota calls for mud. Lots of it. Anytime I'm with my boys, there is usually a fourwheeler involved. We take the back trails and search for the perfect mud puddles. It can be messy but it sure makes for an awesome story later. There's never any doubt that these days will turn into anything less than an adventure.
2. "This Is Safe, Right?"
Words that I seem to say on the daily. For some unknown reason, guys are sure to find the worst and most unsafe way to do things. As bad as it is, I'm always involved. Sure, it'll make for a great story later.. If we live to tell it.
3. What Even Is Makeup?
Guys don't understand that girls need time to get ready for the day. Im not one of those girls that cake on the makeup but I do find at least foundation to be necessary most days. With the short notice I'm given, that usually isn't even an option. Sometimes my phone is ringing at 9 a.m. with the voice on the other end saying "Im picking you up in two minutes, be ready." Whatever you say, dude. Just warning you though, I will look like the bride of Frankenstein. Boys just have no concept of time.
4. "Are you two dating?"
No. Just, no. Save us all the embarrassment and don't even ask that question. This kid is the farthest thing from "dating material". Maybe he'll get a girlfriend someday but I can assure you that it will not be me.
5. You Become Entirely Too Comfortable In Sweatpants.
There is just no other pant option when hanging out with the boys. Sweatpants are highly frowned upon by some girls, but with guys it's the number one option. Try to talk me into wearing jeans, I dare you.
6. They're Basically Your Family.
When you go more than a day without them, your family grows concerned. Your parents don't even question the fact that they come right in without knocking, and go straight for the fridge. We always have to be stocked up on pop and food. Guys have a way of making themselves at home.
They are like built-in brothers. They're the first to know when someone does you wrong, and the first to offer to fight the person, too. (Which is completely unnecessary but hey, at least they care, right?) They never fail to make me laugh and can always tell when something isn't right.
7. You Have Friends For Life.
With girl friends comes drama. With guys, the most dramatic thing that happens is someone taking the last bag of chips. It's the greatest feeling to know that these guys will stick by me through anything. I know that 60 years from now, the only things that will change will be the amount of flab on our arms and our ability to chase each other with a hose. Forever thankful for my own personal bodyguards.
